  1. Snowed in town here almost all night, but it was mostly snow TV since it was so warm.   Maybe got a little over a half inch on the elevated surfaces and grass.

But just a few hundred feet up just outside of town it accumulated over 4".

The place I went to is now carry out only- they have the front door opened with a table there and you tell them what you want and they go grab it. No one goes in the store.

edit- more accurate to say they carry it out to you lol.

That is exactly how we are doing our carry out beer orders.  Works pretty well.

Unrelated, but I was bartending at Nepenthe Brewery in Baltimore a couple weeks ago and a guy was wearing one of your sweatshirts. He had recently been to your Main Street brewery and we had a nice conversation about how good your beers are, but he wasn’t aware of any expansion plans. I know you’ve opened the new brewery site, but I also thought you mentioned possible expansion. Then I read this great article:

    https://brilliantstream.com/2019/04/stumptown-ales-settles-down/

The article is about a year old, so just wondering if expansion to another site is on the table.

eta: did a search on Airbnb and nice pad over the brewery!

Nope, we are staying put without any major expansion plans any time soon.  We do have a pub opening just outside of Charleston (was supposed to open April 1, now not sure when).  But we have no idea how much beer that place will go through, and we have agreed to supply that place so that there are at least 8 beers of ours on tap at all times.  We may be biting off more than we can chew with just keeping up with our Davis and Charleston pub demands.  We could probably squeeze another fermenter or two in our current facility and brew a few more times a month, if we had to.

Our barrel aging program is going well (although more space being taken up).  We're happy being small and in demand.  Hope it stays that way.

Yes, the pad above Stumptown is pretty cool.  Great spot to stay if you have a group.  Right in town close to restaurants, etc.

  4. Amazingly still no confirmed cases here in WV.   Governor is allowing bars/pubs/restaurants to carry on as normal, for now.

We're closing our pub for a couple of days to figure things out.  When we reopen it might just be for carry out can and growler sales.

Usually the last cut is just after Halloween. The ground never froze more than a few days back in early December I think. I have Bermuda grass down here on the coast so it's still dormant but ready to pop. However the mixed in Rye and weeds have been growing all winter long.

That is a nice long grass growing season!

I'm a lawn freak and look forward to caring for it and all my landscaping every spring.  But my first full cut isn't until around May 1st with the last cut in early October.  I'm usually a bit burnt out by October, so it works out well.  Not sure I'd be such a die hard if my season was a few months longer every year.

  6. Another legit snow headed this way tomorrow -- NWS Pit calling for 4-8" and NWS CRW calling for 5-10"

I know I've been harping on how our scarce snows this year seem to be timing out for weekenders well, but this is amazing.   One more good ski weekend (at least).

  7. Looking for a taste of winter only a couple hours away, then come out here!  Over a foot of fluff the last couple of days and still coming down.  Probably the last winter wonderland weekend of the season.  White Grass will be awesome this weekend!

  8. We got over 8" of snow last night in our area.  Still coming down and should have snow chances through Saturday.  At least one last wintry weekend if anyone is looking for snow adventures.  Skiing in Canaan should be great this weekend!

Thank you sir.  I saw that forecast; hopefully The Fearless Weatherman knows his stuff!

Yeah, he is really the only met who focuses much on our area.  There aren't really any other "local mets"

It does look like a decent upslope event.

@jonjon Going up to Davis for Blackwater sledding and hopefully some X-country skiing Sat-Mon.  What are the local mets up there expecting in terms of upslope snow totals?

We're expecting a low end "meh" with possible upside to "hmmmmm"

In all seriousness, I haven't paid much attention.  The Fearless Weatherman expects 6-12" over the 4 day period.  See https://whitegrass.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/fearlessfeb26.txt

    @jonjon

I’m in a beer group on Facebook, and this just popped up.

Glad to hear the stout turned out nice!

By the way...where’s the snow?!

Thanks, we got like 5" of snow on Friday, but most of it withered away under the weekend sun (even though it wasn't that warm). Damn sun angle.

The barrel aged stout we released was only out of 5 gall whiskey barrels from a local distillery (Still Hollow), so it isn't really our Buffalo Trace version that we are hoping to keg in a few weeks.  We did do a taste test of it a couple weeks ago directly from the barrel, and its definitely promising.  We also had an extra barrel we had to fill, so we put in a strong pale ale (really it was our un-dryhopped triple IPA) that I have to admit I was skeptical of, but the taste test of that was surprisingly interesting.

  12. On a weather note we picked up close to 4" of snow yesterday/last night

On a beer note we're ramping up for the holidays, and going to be tasting our Mattie G inspired Buffalo Trace barrel aged imperial stout next week to see if its gained enough character to release some over Christmas week.  And our new fruited sour's w/lactose have been a huge hit (we currently have a Blackberry/Cranberry version on tap, and next week we will have a Mango/Guava version along with a Raspberry/Cherry version).

We're proud to be the top West Virginia brewery on untapped.  See https://brilliantstream.com/2019/12/wv-breweries-untappd-2019/ and we have a new pub opening outside of Charleston this coming spring.

This whole brewery thing has not only been fun, but rewarding enough for me to be closing my law firm at the end of this year (I'll still be involved with a title company doing closings, but another step away from the rat race).  You only live once, so doing what you love to do instead of what you have to do is what has driven me to reach this point.

Anyway, we hope to see some of you out this way soon, if not for the snow, at least maybe some beer.

Or both?  If I'm around I would certainly hook up any member here with a free libation!  Cheers!
