Yeah and the inevitable mixing will begin to enter the pic some time during one of these discussions.  Personally I'm thinking a whiff is on the table with this one as we have some, if ya wanna call it blocking, lol!  Alls I know it this, every time an event enters the picture, theres not one time where we don't have to worry about every damn factor that can screw everything up especially here in CNY, as we're one of the worse places where the cold air hangs on!

Did you just criticize Matt 30 minutes ago for his negativity?

    Pot....meet kettle.

KBGM going with an inch or two (of snow) in the higher elevations sat night into Sunday a.m.  So there's that.  The added bone-us is they are thinking the mon night/Tues system will track further west than previously thought, yielding more non-snow precip than previously thought.  Here in the far north of their CWA...we'll see about that.

I think those rat bastads from Rochester and Buffalo are stealing our snow again, that's what I think!

Nice. Love Royal. Was everything open?

    .

The beginner slope was open,  plus most of the main side.

They had the easiest trail off the main lift closed.....not sure why as there was plenty of snow.

Maybe that's where they held the snowmobile races I saw advertised for Saturday night.   I could see lots of snowmobile tracks as I looked down.

Windham annoyed me going with their new ski pass system a couple of years back.  I don't need more annoying cards to keep track of.

I'll still go but Plattekill is the same distance for us and if there's good natural snow we will take Platty every time.

Windham was awesome today. Lots of soft natural snow bumps. Still some powder stashes left from the big storm. Almost fully open. Hardly anyone there. 2db1fe98fd2470b093aeb7cc64fddc8c.jpgd27a37cb7bca364507141f3495984727.plistcadafa1025cd3a680efeb292ceed0e66.plist

    Looking good.

We went to Royal, which is where we usually start our season each year.

Bountiful natural snow, some of it still ungroomed powder.  A great start to the season.

Mass is void of precip as is ENY, all H700 rotation and energy!

I'm sitting underneath it and I can tell you it's a beautiful thing.  It's so energizing watching the radar blossom to our east and then rotate over us.

Snowing moderately outside and making up for a lackluster overnight.

Nothing big, but there is potential for a few inches during the next 2 weeks. Mid to late Dec is time frame I'm looking at for things to change as I mentioned a few weeks ago.

I'd love to see some lake effect action going on in O Park when the Ravens and Lamar Jackson come to town next weekend.

Interesting and drastic differences in the upper air patttern. One finds a weakness and the other doesn’t. I would say GFS is favored solution based on the rapidly rising AO

When I first looked at the GEM map I was sure that you drew a smiley face in the center of the low.

NWS very bullish on a paste job here, forecasting 4-6 inches.

With just an inch so far color me very skeptical.

I think it whiffs to our east.

Well the radar sure exploded right after I posted this brilliant comment.

    Cooperstown crusher!

Anywhere from 2 inches on the wet spots in the yard, to 6 inches on the garbage pails.

I love that our climo vs areas towards the east end of NY (think Albany) and towards the coast is about 5 degrees on average lower which gives us so many more opportunities for smow either synoptically or meso. BN starting from mid December on usually puts us below freezing and gives us frozen more often than not.

I've lived in Amherst, and i have lived in Albany.

Where are you getting that 5 degree figure from?

They seemed pretty similar to me.

Where I live now, at 1650 feet in Otsego County is definitely colder than both those places.

What a great preparation for more let-downs to come this winter.

At least those of us in Central NY aren't getting the shaft while a few miles north gets pounded. Although, it looks like Oswego city has been within the band much of this evening.

    That's exactly how I feel.

Two days ago there was a huge snowfall gradient on the maps within 30 miles of my house.

Now it's hours away to the northwest......definitely doesn't hurt like it did before.

Actually just last year we had an abnormally wintry November too!  It snowed 20 out of 30 days which is really quite a startling statistic.  Rochester had 17 inches for the Month.  December then went on to have above average temps and minimal snow, so these fast starts appear to come with risks.

It's an interesting pattern we've had over a few years.

When I think of deer hunting season I think of being out in winter conditions.....we always seem to have some snow and at least a period of bitter cold where we struggle to get up to freezing for a high.

Then I think of Christmas week, a month later.....and it tends toward the balmy side, often with no snow around.
