Testing some areas with sand leveling . One section sand only and one section sand and loam.

    .

what kind of sand is that, i only ask because i tried it once and used the wrong sand, it was too fine and became compacted and now that area although it grows grass tends to dry out quickly in the summer, so i have has had to add material to try and aerate that area.

I have the tournament up on my second screen (thank you WFH).  Some of the greens already have the beginnings of that slightly dry, brownish sheen, at least when viewed from above.  Of course they are only televising 4,5 & 6 right now.

i think that the powers that be didn't like DJ's -20 in the fall and were going to make the course firm and fast regardless.

Rory has struggled.  If I remember correctly, he was playing pretty well before the shutdown last year.  He has some sort of mental block going on right now..

  4. Regarding CTE and youth football. I coached my sons teams throughout pop warner. Its a little different now in the older divisions (not so much by weight but by age) , but back then it was a combination of weight and age, for instance we had older/lighters - kids that were older but undersized weight wise- ostensibly to protect them - but those kids were the most "football aware" . 99% of the kids at young ages, i'd say up to puberty, aren't playing the game where they are exposing their head in contact - they are more dancing than hitting. unfortunately there is that 1% , that i call football aware that are the kids who aren't afraid of the contact and , too often, lead with their  head no matter how much you try and coach that out of them.

Those are the kids that are the most accomplished in the game and go on to play beyond high school. so yes those kids are exposed to years of head contact and where CTE can become an issue and its mostly when they run into like minded kids on other teams. i coached a couple of kids who had concussion issues in PW, so much so that we had to end their seasons. One ended up as the gatorade player of the year in Ri his senior year and went on to play at Bryant and made it to an NFL camp - so basically 15 years or football, i worry about him. Another continued with his  concussion issues as a HS freshman and quit football. My point is for most kids playing youth football the exposure minimal, so if the kid wants to play let them play, but there are some kids , and you can see it early, who are headed in the wrong direction and they are usually the ones that play for an extended period.

Personally i played organized football six years from puberty through senior year in HS with what i believe was only one concussion without any lasting effects

And for those refusing to get the vax (which is fine. I get it) I hope you realize that those of us who are getting vaccinated are helping to end this.

    You’re welcome.

This is what concerns me, the "free rider" effect - those not getting stuck will benefit from those getting stuck as all our lives move towards something resembling normal with herd immunity. It may not be a big deal now because i think there is sufficient interest to get the vaccine to get past this phase and open up fully , but if the threat persists (likely?) I think people will be reluctant to get stuck a 2nd, 3rd (n times -think flu shots), so we loose herd immunity and risk more government and business restrictions. Some may conclude there needs  to be a stick (or carrot) for people to get boosters as needed - the vaccine passport? or maybe something more elegant - UBI?. You can argue the government or businesses are wrong to apply more restrictions, but its the world we live in, not the one we want to live in. I mean no one wants to pay taxes, but we "accept" it to fund public goods i.e. those products that people wouldn't pay for on their own unless required to - this is the "free rider" theory as explained in economic theory. I view the vaccine process as analogous in some ways.

What 5 guys would you pick to win? I have to fill out my card tonight and looking for some help. I have Rory and Koepka so far, need 3 more. I like Finau too. There was one year where you took Ricky Fowler every time as it seemed he was in the running every week. Even if he didn't win he gave you some points.

think you have to add bryson, his short game is better than people think. DJ just because, dark horse westwood (but his putting always lets him down) need a good putter which is why i might event consider Reed as much as I hate him. BTW did you see they paired him with berger 1st two rounds who's called him out for cheating before. love it

I like Koepka too. He's sneaky good.

i have him in my pool as a dark horse, cant bend his knee though, so i have my doubts but the guy always plays big in majors

I slipped a disk watching DeChambeau on the practice tee yesterday. Ridiculous power, weird mechanics.

from what i understand that's a "speed" drill he does on occasion to get his swing speed as high as it can be w/o regard for ball flight.

but yeah i be afraid i'd never swing a golf club again after that, but his iron/short game is better than people give him credit for

Gentlemen, I wish to know your preferred Masters viewing beverage. John Daly? Julep? Pimms cup? Moscow mule? Dark/Stormy? Tom Collins? Rum punch? Inquiring minds want to know.

I don’t have a favorite masters drink, but enjoy a chilied (store the bottle and glass in the freezer)grey goose on the rocks while watching any sport

No, but sounds interesting. We have a pool for all the majors, you pick 5 guys and lowest score wins, you have to pick a winning score in case of tiebreaker, cost $20 and a lot of guys play so the pots are decent size. I can tell you if you don't have the winner in one of your five you're not going to win.

We do something similar, split pot for winner and low team, best 4 out 6

think we are safe here not supposed to get much below 30 here, but monday did surprise with a 28 @ UUU (was above freezing at mi casa which is closer to the water than the airport) when we were forecast to stay above freezing. bringing the fig tree and hibiscus in just to be safe.

Tulips are up and not far from flowering, lilacs have little almost bloom green leaves on them , lawns are quickly greening .. magnolias have blossoms.. there’s a ton of stuff growing well ahead of schedule . At 1k that’s pretty significant for late Morch. The valley is even farther along . They’ll have to mow within 2 weeks with the overall mild pattern continuing

Dethatched my lawn with a wire rack this weekend?  Is it ok to aerate in the spring?

Not sure if some one said this - I think the reason behind this school of thought  is if you put down pre- emergent, busting holes in the surface after you put it down renders it useless, so if your going to do it, do it before

I have always worked out at home. I have enough equipment myself. Was just making an observation.

Roger that and I was just looking for an excuse to talk about working out.
