  2. NYC was only 94 in 1972...98 in 1963...1963 had some very cool days in between heat waves...Aug/Sept 63 was on of the coolest on record...
  3. 70 degrees and raining here...
  4. it looks like the 11 year hot summer cycle is under way...many of them had a cool period in May or June...July 1988 started the month with the second coolest July temperature on record before going on to have a very hot July and August...the first 11 days in June 1988 were quite cool...then five straight 90 degree days and eight all together before the cool down at the end of the month...1955 had a cool June...2021 has already had a heat wave and I expect more to come...
  5. on this date in 1972 NYC had a low of 46...a record for so late in the season...Binghamton was 35...LGA 46... Kennedy 50...Newark 46...Trenton 43...Islip 43...
  6. Feb 2010 should not be in the same league with March 1888...
  7. its ten degrees warmer near subway vents...
  8. I calibrated it with a calibrated mercury thermometer and that was even warmer...I settled for that part of the fence looking SW...I tried other places around the house and it did not help unless it was shaded all day...73 now down from 95...nice storm came thru...
  9. I'm on the east side near the water...
  10. plus Newark is around ten feet above sea level while Central Park is 132ft above with many trees around...I think ones to warm and the other to cool...
  11. Staten Island can be as hot as Newark and many times like yesterday mby was as hot as they were...I never liked the radiation shields used now...I think the old weather box's or shelters gave a lower reading...That's just a theory on my part...the only way to test my theory is to set up a shelter and shield side by side with calibrated thermometers and see what happens...
  12. 92 so far... IEM :: Observation History (iastate.edu)
  13. over the years Central Park had rain gauge issues in 1983...snowfall measurment and temperature issues for the last 25 or so years...since there is no on sight meteorologist I expect bad measurements to continue...
  14. Central Park shows the best place to be today outside is in a park under a tree... some Hot periods... 6/21-7/14 1966...19 of 24 days 90 or higher... 7/04-7/20 1993...14 of 17 days 90 or higher... 7/29-8/19 2002...17 of 22 days 90 or higher... 7/23-8/17 1944...19 of 26 days 90 or higher... 7/12-7/23 1952...11 of 12 days 90 or higher... 9/23-9/04 1953...12 of 12 days 90 or higher... 7/27-8/13 1896...14 of 18 days 90 or higher...
  15. I tried it with my phone...its over 195mb...what do you mean take a screen shot?...
  16. cheap accurite but its pretty accurate...I tried up loading a picture but it takes up to much mbs
  17. I'm already 84 with my shield in the Sun and next to my pool...I think the shield is to small because its warm to the touch in the Sun...My weather box I built has a larger area for air to circulate around the probe...
  18. I'm not looking for the fastest 1"...only 1" events that can last 1 hour or one week...
  19. June 1982 had the coldest mid June day in recent times...high of 55 with rain...
  20. I'm researching NYC's 1" rain or precipitation events in Central Park since 1950...they range from a one hour t storm to a five day event...some times it had an inch over two or three days but they were not one event but two or three short ones over a day or two...1" days were days that had some rain in the morning and again later in the day which was counted in...days with a six to 12 hour gap in precipitation were not added in...we just had a two day event the end of May...so far 1983 has 29 1" events and 1965 only five...3 and 4 inch events are on the rise too...I've been working on this for a few weeks now...I have to check the hourly precipitation rates for all the storms that were over an inch...then I have to put it on paper...it gives me something to do with my spare time...
  21. Garden variety here...my rain gage broke so I dont have a number but it rained hard for a while...lawn watered...pool topped off...
