They apparently went in and helped evacuate teachers and kids. But did not engage the gunmen for whatever reason. My guess is that the rampage was done by the time they came in (5 min after he went into the school) but yeah why not engage him immediately. Sounds like lack of training.

Definitely early for a full opening. Even last summer some were closed certain days due to staffing issues.
