18" was the last reading at 9am on the mountain.

I got about 13" at home and it's down to flurries while we wait for stronger NW flow.  Figure the mountain is good for another 8-12" while 3-6" here at home.

Mreaves got like over two feet or something like that near Montpelier.

That's an interesting setup with the flow out of the northeast in the mid levels while you have NW flow below 6000ft or so.

I know up here we have 5 climate sites. PWM and CON have paid observers measuring every 6 hours, GYX obviously is staffed round the clock and does 6 hour measurements, and MHT as far as I know reports their 24 max snowfall at midnight (AUG doesn't have snow obs :()

I agree with you and Will about the 6 hrs. It just makes more sense to me with all the reasons stated.

Prior to 1998, it was max-depth unless instructed. I think max depth would maintain more congruence w/ historical record.

I've previously provided reference to the current NWS guidelines. I checked with the NJ State Climatologist, who specializes in snow cover and was very much involved in the crafting of the guidelines. What he was able to explain to me was that traditionally, the six hour option has only been available to professional observers at airports. However, back in about 1998 the NWS rules were revised and the six hour option was added for Coop observers*.

But now you have two different ways to measure snow. The airports who seem to do every 6 hours, and the COOP guys. Ugh.

They're not supposed to as per official guidelines. They should be taking intermediate depth measurements to capture maximum depth. Unfortunately, there is a ton of miscommunication on this issue.

I thought OceanSt was saying many first order stations clear the board or what have you, every 6 hrs.  And what the heck defines intermediate depth measurements? every hr? every 6 hrs?

March has definitely more than made up for much of January and almost all of February. Those constant rainers and icing and 80F were seemingly sending this winter into F level...March has brought it up quite a bit

Imagine if that first storm was snow?

That storm was a KU of damage. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks! Now just wait until I get my first meltdown next year because I know seasons like this doesn't happen every year.

A college friend went to Boston for 2014-15 year. When I saw him again, I asked him about your legendary month and he commented, "I never want to see another ****ing flake again for the rest of my life."

I'll never experience something like that, but 40" in 5 mid-March days is good enough :)

Oh absolutely. In March? Epic. You’ll get yours up there in a crazy stretch. Pretty good winter there despite the several week lull.

I brought that same Morch firehose storm up on Saturday morning. They told me no similarities and different set up

It was different. That was a firehose, a plume of Deep moisture off the atlantic. This snow was the result of synoptic forcing and banding more seen in coastal lows.

We got / getting crushed this has to be the second biggest snow here that I remember. I was in Medford for 78 so that of course is on its own but wow!

April 97 and after second thought, perhaps long duration Feb 2015 event for me. Both over 30-33". Definitely runner ups in the U20s. Enjoy it. They are special.
