  1. I'll take it. These warmups feel good for those of us still mourning the demise of summer. Remember last winter, below avg snow here but still near 100"...south and east of BGM winter was a total fail.
  2. You must have a heater? I closed mine about 3 weeks ago. Thankfully, it was a hot summer with just enough rain to make up for losses (I'm on a well so refilling pool from that isn't an option).
  3. Good place to hike. I snowshoe there in the winter also. Rain just got going here down to 58F. I guess its adios to our last gasp of summer...
  4. I don't have a link to offer but check out WxRisk's latest post on Facebook or maybe twitter...Most interesting. I better get the pool closed up ASAP if he's right. Of course he's full of hubris and mongering but its usually entertaining at least.
  5. We received another 0.71" with round 2 of storms. So total thusfar since 8 am is 1.99"...
  6. I didn't see them but I know parts of Syracuse can flash flood in these conditions. A few years back a man fell into an open manhole in flood conditions and was sucked into the underground sewer system and perished...they extracted his body near where I work. Sad.
  7. I ran into someone this a.m. that was wondering if these thunderstorms were due to the hurricane. I naturally said Yes. Yes they are. Wait till the eye gets here in a couple of days... I think she half believed me...
  8. Just had a few strong thunderclaps overhead. The kind with no delay between flash and bang and make you jump. Very cool. I had 1.28" rain with first round that moved thru around 8am. Downpouring again.
  9. I'm at about 0.9" rainfall thusfar today, since 8 am (0.13" overnight puts event over an inch here). Looks like quite a bit more coming for CNY. Edit: I just emptied my raingauge, 1.02" since 8 am. Total for event at 1.15"...
  10. They’re actually worried? Cuz if they are... LMAO
  11. Gotta say, with being able to work from home all the time, if it wasn't for my dog and his 4 acres of free range lifestyle here (and my pool), I'd look at downsizing to somewhere near the bullseye. In fact, I probably just should. I can always install a new wireless dog fence system and pool...
  12. This fall I need to get back into some basic hiking. Been too long and a good way to do something that enables distancing. It is beautiful up there.
  13. Nice pics. I haven't been up there in decades at this point. Is there Covid lurking up on top of Whiteface?
  14. 2.77" here and 0.54" prior day with Fay. 3.31" total. Definately needed that!
  15. Light rain in Syracuse. Looks more impressive on radar than reality. At least here.
  16. KBGM 1148a update more bullish for CNY rain: It`s important to not that the coldest cloud tops associated with the deepest convection and heaviest precip continues to shift toward the northwest quadrant of the storm. This gives us confidence that the western edge of the heavier rainfall shield should at least make it into our far western areas. Cyclonic flow around Fay will advect tropical moisture (PWATs exceeding 2") in from the southeast through the afternoon. Orographic lift along the eastward-facing slopes of the Poconos and Catskills looks to be key for enhanced rainfall late this afternoon and evening. Model soundings show the presence of elevated instability for NEPA and the western Catskills, which although modest, should be sufficient for embedded thunder with locally heavy rain rates over these locations from about 3-4 PM through about 10- 11 PM. There is a potential for moderate to locally heavy rainfall to linger into the overnight hours across our NY zones, especially east of I-81, as easterly flow continues to provide upslope enhancement on the northern side of the low center. Will also have to watch for where the inverted trough/residual coastal front to the north of the low center reaches. If it happens to setup a bit farther west, then rainfall totals may be underdone overnight.
  17. Finally got some rain Mon and Tues eve. I had over an inch of rain monday eve in a savage downpour with some impressive downdrafts with a briefly intense cell that popped up in the Syr area. Only about 0.2" last evening as the main frontal passage was weak sauce. I'll take it, much needed. Gorgeous morning, lower humidity for a nice break. Now let's get back to hot AF.
  18. You are likely correct. My upstairs stays warmer, which is not unexpected but I have an attic (Dutch Colonial house). I shutoff and sealed registers in the finished basement as it's always cold down there. Didnt help that much. I was going to install a supplementary fan in the duct serving upstairs but haven't got around to it. I think our problems are either an undersized ACU and/or flow balance out of whack. Would need some pro analysis to really know. Actually, I could figure it out, I'm a power systems engineer but...lazy. And the wife used to just turn up the ac until you needed a sweater downstairs...which makes me think my issue is more of a flow balance.
  19. Pretty much agree. 80s for highs, maybe get to 90 and lower humidity is perfect. Humidity rising this afternoon though. We just had a shower of sorts. Fell apart moving north. Weak sauce. Need a downpour for the garden, hopefully in next few days we get one.
  20. Some rain soon would be a good thing. I've had to start ferrying buckets of water to the garden as the still young plants are really suffering.
  21. I missed this since I have been detuning from the noise. Congrats on the decision, it's certainly understandable. You will be missed here for sure. Best of luck to you and the Frau.
  22. I'll take it. Although some rain for my veggies would be good. This is one hot steamer of an air mass. Dewpoints been mid to upper 60s for days now. This weekend might actually feel "refreshing." Which is one benefit of living up here in summer. As much as I like the heat...not gonna lie, some relief at times feels good.
  23. It is a hassle but it does work. During a "normal" summer i can keep my pool temp upper 70s to low 80s for the most part. I've thought about getting a solar heater but undecided as to where i would place it so i'm still looking around, stuck in analysis paralysis. Not that it will affect us but GFS been trying to gin up a tropical system in the caribbean the past few runs and head it somewhere towards the FL Keys, maybe into the GOM. Early start to the season for sure.
  24. I do that. It's still difficult to maintain above ground pool temp in CNY unless the Summer is a warm/sunny one. Two years ago i barely went in the pool as every time temp got up to mid 70s (my threshold) it would rain and get cloudy for days, dropping it back down in to the 70 degree range. That's happened a couple of Summers.
