the gap will fill in, but not from that particular band in eastern wake. It will fill in more from the south.
Thanks for clarifying.

That band in eastern wake will not make it across the county. It will be north of wake before it progresses that far west. Watch the loop.
.
Just to be clear…now you’re saying the gap won’t fill in. Is that right?
. -
He’s talking about the eastern edge of the ULL, it looks to have moved as far east as it’s going to. Any snow for most of Wake going forward will be from the coastal.
Pretty sure he’s talking about the coastal not making it any further west than the eastern side of the county.

That eastern edge will not make it all the way across wake. It is in eastern wake and not progressing any further.
.
Are you trolling or being serious?

Really?? It looks like there is still a westward moving component to me.

The 500, 700, 850, 925 and surface lows are aligned now from nwSC to off the SC coast and the slope (imagine this to be a very large F1 tornado tilted to west at highest point) is slowly decreasing as each level catches up to the one closer to the surface. Surface banding is tending to be squeezed together by this process as the further west the snow, the more connected it is to upper level lows. This should slowly fill in that long-lived dry slot near Raleigh and allow them to join the party (a bit late so totals will be 4-7").
This storm will continue to rip for 6-9 more hours before the 500 mb low drifts out to sea. Some places could end up with 18-24 inch totals as heavier bands will develop now that stronger winds are blowing in from the ocean.
Some gusts to 50 or 60 mph likely in exposed coastal areas this evening into the overnight. Severe blowing and drifting of snow will occur. Wind chill values of 5-10 F or lower, seldom if ever observed before in coastal NC are possible. Further inland it won't get that windy but gusts to 35 mph will be widespread, blowing and drifting snow will strand some travelers, and wind chills will drop to near or below zero F.
Check please!

You have to admit it's hard to go from a possible double-digit event to maybe 2 in.
Yeh it sucks…I guess I’ve let go of the big snow dreams and just hoping we can get lucky and pick up 2-3.

A long time ago on EasternUSWX, a guy named RaleighWX (I believe) was a meteorology student (or professor) and studied each NC snowstorm. He made a composite of various maps from different times that Raleigh got a snowstorm. I wonder if anybody remembers that. I think he even programmed a model web site for.. EasternUSWX?
Pretty sure that’s Allan Huffman.

The NWS only updates every 8hrs or so right? They are not going to nowcast like the TV broadcast mets do on model run cycles. Let's see where they are on the next update cycle.
Yes I think their last update was at 8:22pm. Seems they would’ve had reason enough to change their forecast at that time and didn’t. We’ll see.
. -
You’re joking right? They blew it last week.
Yes I’m being sarcastic. Hoping NWS is right.

All the professionals are saying the same thing. They are all saying there is the POSSIBILITY of a bust and a MINIMUM in central NC. But so far nobody has the guts to put 0-1" on a map.
All the professionals? How about the group at NWS? Or Don S?

Does anyone else think it would be refreshing to hear a tv met say “I don’t know how much snow we’re going to get. It’s beyond our ability to predict this. Be prepared for the possibility of accumulating snow and disruption for a few days”. Why do we need all of this back and forth over the number of inches??

Maze just backed way off
Guess we’ll see who is right.
. -
So for the Triangle NWS says 5-8, Don S says 3-6, Greg Fishel says 4-7 but all of us are fixated on the model flip flopping. Let’s give the professionals some credit and see how this plays out rather than jumping off the cliff.

Any reports to give on the line moving through NC right now?
. -
RAP zr map. But it doesn't have precip here in Wake until 8 hours from now and there is report of sleet in Cary now.

Confirmed it is sleeting in Cary now.
