  1. SPC Discussion calls it “four star snow”

I move we refer to heavy snow as such going forward.

Recent observations show 4-star snow along the WV/VA
border, and additional heavy snow rates are likely to develop
northeastward through midday, eventually reaching the western MD
Panhandle. In addition, cooling aloft may result in small elevated
MUCAPE values, adding to heavy snow burst potential.

NorthArlington is right.  The peak rates were tremendous, but not unprecedented.  I hit around 10”/hr on my VP2, but I’ve seen that number before.  The difference was the length of the high rates.  Visibility was poor, like a good snowfall, but not a complete white-out blizzard.

The other interesting part was that this was effectively one big cell.  The other times that we get dumped on (eg. Lee in 2011 or Ellicott City) it is due to a training/redeveloping situation.  This was just a monster rain-producing cell that moved through.

Time of the day was also pretty unique and exacerbated the impact.
I remember going to bed noticing the cell and flood warnings near Cumberland.  By morning rush, it had intensified and hit the urban cores, but kept moving.

The new format looks great except that for me, everyone’s font color is white so I can’t read anything. Should I be taking a hint that my default font color is also white?

Sounds about white.  I also can't see anything previously posted without highlighting it.

  4. The Huntington Levee (Alexandria) had its ribbon cutting on June 15 and consequently dozens of homes were saved by it this morning when Cameron Run reached 11.8 feet this morning.  A 10 foot rise in an hour.

Previously, 9' was when some homes began to be impacted and 11' was when "dozens of homes in Huntington are flooded. Water affects businesses near the Route 1 and Fort Hunt Drive intersection."
