  1. Thanks to warmer Septembers, we don't have nice foliage here often anymore. Trees 90% foliated and a dull green color into the end of October followed by them blown off by the November nor'easters. You need cool nights to go along with decreasing insolation to help break down chlorophyll efficiently.

Maybe I'm not searching right but this is actually not so easy to find.

Trying to find the 'latest in a calendar year a heat wave took place' ... etc, but it's not apparently a very popular observation -

As far as I can tell these are the latest in SNE:

    BDL 9/21-23/1914

    BDR 8/28-9/2/1953

    BOS 9/21-23/1914

    ORH 9/14-16/1915

    PVD 9/7-9/2015

While I question exactly how reliable it is, Knowing my PWS wasn’t designed for these type of rates, it’s been around 4”/hr rain for the past 10min….nearly 1” during that time.

You could always sanity check it with the radar estimates.

Up close. Even though technically its isn't they should hoist tropical storm warnings

You would need sustained 39+ to meet the criteria. These are just gusts into the 40s/50s which is wind advisory territory.

Seems like the back should break between D9 and 14 approximately ….

Pretty good nexus of cooler teleconnectors out there and after that, the sun is just not the same in September - it’s like asking for a heat wave on April 6. It can happen but the return rate on that’s too rare to look for it. I think in 2014 or so we had a borderline heat wave in early September

In their full record period, BDL (last one in 2018) and BOS (last one in 2015) have had six heat waves post-8/31, ORH has had one (1915), PVD has had two (2015 and 1983), and BDR zero.

Can probably cancel a lot of the TS warnings especially west

Yeah I thought that last night especially west of New Haven when it was clear this thing was heading east, but figured they were keeping it in place for the surge/flooding impacts.

Can’t wait for this to fall apart before making landfall. Take models out of it….what happens to a disorganized tropical storm drifting slowly over cold water?

Why would you say drifting? It's trucking along at 14 mph. Do you think this thing is just going to fall apart in the next 18 hours before making first landfall on Long Island?

Even down here not all electric lines aren’t buried but, Florida Power & Light has invested in their network, swapping out most poles to cement including the high tension poles.

Florida also doesn't have the trees that New England does, and that's really the problem. We could have cement poles too but when a 60 foot tree lands on the wires cement pole or not the power is done for.

hes awesome.. shows he cares coming back.. plus i think he would be secretly mad if he missed it

Bet he makes his minions work the studio while he heads on down to Guilford for the front row seat. Maybe it'll be his Cantore moment.

  10. Eversource says they have brought in 4,000 additional crews, have 2,000 poles and 3,000 transformers on hand. Seems like they have resources in place plus whatever the town public works can add for tree removal. Let's just hope they don't do what they always do and dick around for the first 24-36 hours "assessing damage" before actually getting to work like with Isiaias. If they really do have that many people, they should be able to put a dozen crews in every town so the outages for most people shouldn't be too long. The frustrating part last time was basically going a day or two and not seeing any power trucks in their town.

  11. I don't have a problem with the length of any games, but let's not pretend like NFL isn't 10 minutes of action and 3 hours 20 mins of guys standing around watching a clock tick down, commercials, refs doing their thing, and other rando stoppages in play. At least basketball, hockey, and soccer is constant action.
