  1. Make sense. I guess the predictions of people making a mad dash for Applebees after their tyrannical government allowed them to leave their house never materialized. At this point, opening things up is a paper exercise. There is pent-up demand for sitting on a beach, but not sitting at a restaurant.
  2. First time since March 30th. Mission Accomplished. Time to #openitup!
  3. A majority of the people who lost their jobs, and are supposedly starving and foraging for food, support the restrictions too. Phin is a rebel without a cause. Sad!
  4. I've never visited the politics forum. Sounds like it must be a cesspool over there.
  5. Well, today was the first weekend of loosened restrictions in 30+ states. I was told to expect lines out the door of people who, after a month of being oppressed by their tyrannical government, finally exercising their right to get a massage. Instead, I see lots of people just sitting at the beach. My 401k does not approve of this.
  6. Which one? There are several trolls on this thread today. LOL
  7. The CDC believes their data. If an armchair epidemiologist on a weather discussion forum doesn't want to believe it, that's their prerogative.
  8. If the data doesn't fit your argument, question its source. Classic tactic.
  9. I go by data. You go by feelings.
  10. He's the king of hyperbole. It's entertaining.
  11. Granny should get a flu shot.
  12. I read somewhere that 30% of teachers are over 50. So I don't really blame them. The 50-65 demographic has a significant risk with this virus too.
  13. I think back in January and February, China was dishonest about many things. It appears the local government in Wuhan tried to hide things from Beijing, and likewise China misled the WHO (whether it was because they wanted to save face, or they didn't want external scrutiny, or they were hiding something - I don't know. I'm not interested in political conspiracy theories.). And I'm sure they under-counted back then too. But I'm only looking at their current daily numbers. They may not be exactly correct but I think they''re within an order of magnitude, i.e. they seem to have it under control currently (though that doesn't mean it won't come back). I'm sure Vietnam has had a few deaths, but whether it's zero or just a handful, they don't seem to have a big outbreak there. They took very early steps at containment. The CDC believes the Vietnamese numbers so I'll defer to them. Yes, there could be issues with data quality and data sources. But it's also possible that they're just doing a better job at basic public health right now.
  14. We can't trust Communist data. Got it. We can't trust Communist data. Got it.
  15. South Korea, Vietnam, China, New Zealand and Australia have essentially squashed this virus for the moment. Very few cases and most of those cases are imported. Vietnam hasn't even recorded a single COVID death which is remarkable considering their population is nearly 100 million people. Germany is well on its way to squashing it. They've seen 27 consecutive days of a steep decline in active cases. Italy and Spain has seen seen a decline in active cases for about ten consecutive days (not as steep as Germany but a definite downward trend). Turkey, Iran and Denmark are similar. US and UK appear to be past their peak, but still struggling. Brazil and Russia appear to be in the worst of it. (though Russia's death rate is quite low) The conclusion is that we either need more time, or we suck at public health. We spent much of the 20th century teaching the world about good public health, so it'd be pretty disappointing to know that others execute it better than we do.
  16. You seem to minimize what happened back then because it's not convenient to your argument. But that rationing meant significant limitations on daily activities. There actually were travel restrictions back then because of fuel rationing. Many sports were also cancelled. But yes, you probably could get a haircut back then. They had freedom!
  17. The 10th amendment provides states great latitude for doing things in the interest of public health. The Interstate Commerce Clause actually supports the idea that a national stay-at-home order might be constitutional. So is that what you're arguing now? LOL.
  18. Our government was much more authoritative during WW2. They gave most of that control back after the war. If you feel our leaders are too authoritative you can vote them out. If they suspended elections then I'd be more concerned. Otherwise there are mechanisms in place to change our government.
  19. I never flipped out about the protesters. I prefer that they wear an "I protested today" sticker so I can stay 20 feet away from them, but other than that I have no issues.
  20. They should have explicitly put it in the Constitution then. They were smart people.
  21. Where have you seen neighbors tattling all over the place? Sounds like an anecdote. I thought you didn't deal with those. Littering is technically a $300 fine but I've never seen anyone get fined for littering. All rules are written this way. Go cross the Maryland border and report back. I promise you won't get arrested.
  22. You obviously have no understanding of the Constitution
  23. That already happened a couple months ago in New Rochelle in early March. Before our current restrictions took place.
  24. You sure can. Have you been arrested yet for traveling between any of your three residences? I doubt it. There is no lockdown.
  25. He has no idea. He backtracks and shifts and swerves like Floyd Mayweather. There is no consistency to his arguments other than using hyperbole to form a contrarian argument.
