  1. My point & click is showing what it showed last night which is 1" overnight Sunday into Monday followed by another 2-4 inches during Monday. That absolutely warrants a WWA. A total of 3-5" is not far away from a WSW as 5" is enough for WSW. Currently 28 degrees with a biting wind and wind chills down in the upper teens. Good portion of yesterday's snowfall still is on the ground in my backyard, which remains in the shade a good chunk of the day.
  2. At 2:30pm here in Carlisle, the snow that had been falling moderately has temporarily ended for the 2nd time. At the time of heaviest rates my temperature dropped to 29.8 (not bad for my earlier prediction of 30.0) During the past hour accumulations began in earnest on sidewalks and my snowboard. Officially I have now recorded 0.3" of snow. It was melting on the board for a good chunk of the first several hours. Where it never melted was on my grass which currently has 0.7". I like the look of the grass, however, I have to go with my "official" board measurement. With the snow temporarily having stopped my temperature has risen to 30.6 degrees. The sun's position in the sky has dropped sufficiently as to no longer be a factor in anything melting (like my sidewalks). It still looks like the best may be yet to come beginning between 4 and 5 pm. We'll see.
  3. Here in Carlisle at 12:00 noon, accumulating snow continues as intensity slowly ramps up, almost approaching moderate. I don't quite have 0.1" on my board, but very soon. Grass, mulch, etc all turning white. This intensity has indeed caused my temperature to continue to drop, now down to 30.7 degrees. Several of the models that called for nothing in my area have now busted...lol.
  4. Solid, accumulating light snow is now picking up. Whitening everywhere. Temp down to 31.5.
  5. Here in Carlisle at 11:24am a steady, very light snow has begun. Temp currently 32.2 after a low of 23.9. Dew point 22.1 and wet bulb 28.8. If it picks up in earnest that's an easy drop to 30 degrees.
  6. Here's tomorrow afternoon's non-event. There is almost nothing that needs subtracting from the Sun/Mon storm. The only precip falls between 1pm and 4pm.
  7. Here in Carlisle, my total precipitation for the year 2024 came out to 48.23". Believe it or not, I finished the year with a surplus of only 0.20" above the normal annual average of 48.03". It was a topsy-turvy year month-to-month, especially the period from July through October. I measured just 1.43" in July (2nd driest month), followed immediately the next month of August with 10.69". (I think the last time I had a 10"+ month was September, 2018). September totaled 3.24" (-1.45" departure), followed by October, the driest month I have ever recorded at any of my previous locations, with a paltry 0.42". In the end it all averaged out to close to normal for the year. The annual departure of +0.20" was only +0.4% of the normal 48.03". An incredible year!
  8. At noon, here in Carlisle it continues to be overcast. The sun has not been out since Friday. Yesterday I recorded 0.20" of precip; 0.19" during the overnight going into yesterday, then only another 0.01" yesterday evening. During the overnight (today 12/29) I recorded an additional 0.05" for a 2-day storm total of 0.25". The current temperature has risen to 55.6 degrees. The pressure is falling rapidly, down to 29.90" So much for the 1.5"+ previously forecast.
  9. That snow map is showing the cumulative total for the entire run, between now and 7am January 13th. It's a beaut, that's for sure.
  10. Here in Carlisle I recorded a low temperature of 7.2 degrees, which was only 1 degree below the forecast temp of 8. The last coldest temperature recorded here was +2.6 degrees, 2 years ago almost to the day, on 12/24/22.
  11. Here in Carlisle at 11:32pm the skies are clear and the winds are calm. Radiational cooling is doing its thing even though there is no snow cover. The temperature is 10.9 degrees F. This is the coldest temperature of the season so far. My forecast low is 8, which seems very doable with nearly 8 hours of darkness remaining. The previous low of the season was 13.6 degrees which was recorded on December 1st.
  12. Here in Carlisle, shortly before 1:30pm, it continues to snow lightly as it has been for the past 3 hours. The temperature has varied between 31.8 and 32.2. It's 32.0 right now. There's been some light melting on my board so it's difficult to be totally certain of the measurement. However, my best estimate is between 0.2" and 0.3". It's been accumulating primarily on the grass and trees, especially evergreens. Not even the mulch is white. In about an hour from now the feeble effects of the sun will begin to diminish further, allowing for further accumulations.
  13. At 11:00am here in Carlisle the temperature is 32.2 degrees. Pixie dust snow has been falling on and off for the past several hours. It was enough to dust the mulch, grill cover, and some tree branches. The intensity has picked up noticeably in the past 15 minutes to the heaviest rates it's been so far. Still considered "light" with fine flakes, it's hard enough to begin whitening up the aforementioned areas again. I think the most significant thing about the snow today is that it has only been 5 days since the last event. Getting measurable twice in less than a week in December is quite the feat...lol.
  14. Beautiful early winter afternoon here with 56 degrees, clear skies, almost no wind. It's hard not to like a day like this.
  15. Hi Bliz...

I was going to post the following comments from me after Atomix made the "11,000" comment, but decided to only give it to you instead, just to prevent a flare up of emotions over the measurement issue.  Here it is...

---If you're joking (with your intent), that's fine.  If you aren't, then I disagree with you.  Bliz was justifiably upset yet again with what appears to have been a failure to accurately measure the snow at the airport.  Unless it was raining there at the time and not snowing.  When it comes to accuracy reporting all parameters I'm in the same camp for precision.  I ran a real-time weather data observing business (on the side) for most of the 90's.  Standardization was paramount for me.  I'm not truly upset by this, however, MDT seems to have a long history of underreporting snowfall.  I hope cashtown can reach out to CTP and ask them about this.

    Let me know your feelings.

  16. Well, looks like I was correct with my comments about waking up to a "white" morning. My temperature hovered near 32.2 from midnight until 5:41am when it hit 32.5. It didn't go above 32.5 until 8:13am when it hit 32.7. Needless to say very little has melted. However, there is plenty of fog around this morning, and I have reached the warmest temperature it has been here in nearly 4 days, with a reading of 34.3 degrees. I don't mind the snow melting from purely warmer temperatures. But, I always hate to see snowpack eliminated by rain. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to melt the majority probably late this afternoon or evening.
  17. I think I'm (we're) going to get my wish. The back edge of the rain is already crossing the M/D line. There is nothing behind following. My temp has fallen back to 31.8 degrees. At this point I'm guessing that there will be at most 0.10" of rain with the temp between 32 and 33. If the rain is done while the temp is 33, there absolutely will be snow on the ground in the morning. Even if the temp goes up to 35, with no sun and no rain, any melting will be curtailed. I'm dreaming of a white Monday morning...
  18. Here is my climatological summary from Carlisle for 12/15/24: A total of 1.5" of snow was recorded between 4:00pm and 11:00pm. The 1.5" of snow melted down to 0.15" of liquid which gave a perfect 10:1 SLR. The high temp was 32.5 degrees and the low was 21.9. At midnight a very light mixture of snow/sleet/and maybe some rain was occurring. Maybe we'll be lucky and the amount of rain overnight will be less, and there will still be at least some snow left on the grass come 8:00am. Nite all.
  19. At 9:15pm here in Carlisle, the temperature is holding at 31.6 degrees. Since the last obs it has snowed on and off lightly. At the moment the snow is the really fine stuff that almost looks like drizzle. However, it did snow enough to accumulate an additional 0.1" which brings the storm total to 1.5". This probably will end up being the final total if current radar trends are accurate. Wunderground radar is showing what looks like a change in p-type (sleet) might not be too far off. It shows pink coming north from Adams County and into southern Cumberland. All in all the snow season has officially begun and for the moment everything outside is covered in white. I'll discontinue my hourly updates for now and be back shortly after midnight with the climate summary for today.
  20. At 8:00pm here in Carlisle, the temperature has risen to 31.5 degrees. Steady, light snow has returned. During the past hour an additional 0.1" of snow has accumulated, producing a storm total of 1.4". The current radar doesn't look as favorable as it did an hour ago for any meaningful additional accumulation. Will see where things stand in an hour. At least the precip has remained all snow with no mixing except at the very beginning.
  21. At 7:00pm here in Carlisle, the temperature has risen to 31.1 degrees after having spent the majority of the hour at 30.7. The rise is because a lull in the accumulating snow has moved in. During the past hour only 0.1" of new snow has fallen. This has produced a storm total of 1.3". The HRRR seems to indicate some additional accumulations are possible over the next 2-3 hours before it stops completely for an hour and then resumes as rain by midnight. We'll see.
  22. At 6:00pm here in Carlisle it is snowing moderately with fatter flakes reappearing. The temperature has risen from 30.0 2 hours ago to 30.9 degrees. At 5:00 I had recorded 0.9" of snow for the storm total. As of 6:00 an additional 0.3" has accumulated, producing a storm total of 1.2". The models that had been insistent on there being accumulating snow as far east as MDT have turned out to be the winners. CTP played catch-up again. Remember, the HRRR from this morning was showing a radar depiction of heavy snow over nearly all of our region at 7:00pm. Should be interesting to see what happens in the next several hours.
  23. Back to smaller, "regular" size flakes (which is moderate 0.5"/hr rates). Temp down to 30.2 now.
  24. Moderate to almost heavy with huge flakes now. Temp has dropped to what I thought it would earlier which is 30.4 with dew point of 28. It appears to be accumulating faster on my grass than on my snowboard. Grass easily reaching 1" with < 0.5" on the board. Too bad we're losing our daylight.
