its hard to get a snowstorm that's 4" or more in December during a la nina year...only seven years had one since 1950...mostly recent years...
2017......4.6"
2010....20.0"
2008......4.0"
2005......5.8"
2000....12.0"
1995......7.7"
1984......4.8"
Maybe it is becoming easier since 5 happened in the last 20 years

i have started seeing the spotted lanternfly the last few weeks in New Brunswick, for the first time. and once you see one, well, it was like they all showed up all at once.
They have been in Piscataway for a few months. I am on the one neighborhood FB page and people have posted them. Where I am in Branchburg, they are all over the place.

In my NNJ days we had only one measurable October event, 0.7" on the 26th in 1962. High at my place was a cool 34° and football practice was quite chilly, especially as Fridays were only walk-throughs, not much to help stay warm. (Ironically, exactly one year later was my first game playing all the offensive and defensive snaps, in mid-80s heat - sweated off about 15 lb but that was one of only 2 wins for us that year.)
The winter of 2006-07 sucked here...it was great for LES belts and good for NNE.
Good for NNE from Jan. 14 on. Until then met winter temps were running about +8 here and the 11"of snow was exactly 1/3 of the average thru 1/13. The rest of that winter (thru mid April) brought another 84" snow with temps significantly BN. Most schizophrenic winter of my experience.
2011, I had 4.25" of snow in October and lived within walking distance of Rutgers. The rest of the season we got little more.

I think that is a different storm there. We meant 12/30/00.
Correct thanks, I had the wrong year. 12/30/00 locally had around 18-22" from that storm.

Wasn't that storm more of a bust for the mid-Atlantic? It was supposed to be a big one in DC/Baltimore, probably 8-12" or so, but then it bypassed us completely while NYC and Philly ended the millennium with a major storm.
I'm guessing up this way it may have tracked too close and become a rainer. It was a very compact storm.
Where I was in NJ by Rutgers I think we got around 7" from this storm.

One of the best snowstorms of my life living in cnj near Rutgers at the time.

Been enjoying this stretch of mornings in the low to mid 50s.

From the post earlier this year, I think that Jim Hughes used to post here and on eastern years ago, but then got run off the site from people bashing him. I believe he may have been from West Virginia. I remember that name though.

Baseball especially. I didnt realize how bad the TV experience would be without fans
I'm surprised, it hasn't changed for me one bit. I like the game itself and can't stand when they cut to the stands to show some dope that looks to be praying.

I'm worried more about repeating the 80s or the 96-2000 period
the 80s actually averaged more snow than the 90s for the cnj area.

BAMWX agrees with you. They just tweeted this morning that the signals are growing for a mild winter across the CONUS
They were so bad last winter that I had to stop following them.

During the summer it also spits out 100s like it is its job in the long range. I think for Philly at day 7+ it spit out 100s over 20x this summer. Their high temp for the summer was 97.
