  1. Kinda surprising, but kinda not given the depth of the cold air atw to the coast in SE NC....Crystal Coast and Brunswick County are the only S facing Atlantic coastlines south of Long Island.....precip flow was off the ocean last night. At OKI we get our worst thunderstorms off Onslow Bay to the south, and even a high end tropical storm or CAT 1 with a landfall around NMB/Little River can give us an 8-10' storm surge (Isiais and Matthew most recently) because of the right (perpendicular to flow) angle, shallow water at the mouth of the Cape Fear and enhanced rainfall. I have seen what resembles an 8' tidal bore with a strong north wind and a big runoff from recent heavy rains on the river when the tide changes during the winter (river water is ass-.nasty, btw)... I always wondered how it would play out during a winter storm with the right amount of cold air....guess I finally have my answer My neighbor at Oak Island sent me a pic of my house from this morning....he said around 8"+
  2. Wild bc the 3 highest locations are on completely opposite sides of the state- not sure i have ever seen that
  3. Place gives me kind of a weird Overlook Hotel vibe, especially in the snow lol
  4. You can literally see the snow total graphic reflected in the visible satellite if you look closely- crazy
  5. Anyone taking bets on how many areas get close to or below zero tonight? This is about as clear as you can get for many locations (beautiful day), plus not much in the way of wind outside of the mtns and coast, especially once the sun drops
  6. Visible sat from 2pm- you can see the extent of the snow cover in the Carolinas, Sside VA, and NEGA,
  7. Took a walk this AM- figured I wouldn't see something like this event again IMBY anytime soon, so I took a bunch of pics around my house- enjoy!
  8. I put up a thread specifically for this, but it would help if it was pinned- sure everyone has some great pics
  9. Is it Everest, or Craig's roof next door?
  10. Figured everyone has quite a few- if you are having the dreaded "File Size Too Large" prompt, simply pull up the pic in your phone, do a screenshot of the picture, crop it to get the cell phone headings out of the way, and post em' up
  11. Yea- still snowing here- hard to tell between what is blowing around v falling- this has been pretty wild
  12. I traded my 4wd Ford for a Tundra-Ford I would ~maybe feel comfortable driving in this with the all-terrains I use, but not in the 4wd Tundra...I drive in mud on my sites almost daily, which really isn't very different from driving on snow/ice (I have done a lot of that too)... that being said- you don't have to worry about other drivers on a muddy site....that is the real issue- should be emergencies only if you are on the roads tonight- not worth the risk Pic is just another day at the office
  13. Got somewhere around that amount in Tega Cay- looks to be 10"+, but hard to say with any certainty...and still snowing- guess I need to find a spot so I can measure
