Lawn is about as best as I've seen in look. The rain timing has worked out well..hopefully Sunday produces if it's going to be lousy.

I told my wife to take a picture now cause it's the best the lawn will look all year. Only goes downhill from here.

It’s step 2 Weed and Feed time for Lesco. Right around Mem Day weekend every year it goes down

Hmm, Lesco guy told me to re-apply more of the dimension/pre-emergent stuff, presumably step 1 on memorial wknd. I basically put down the pre-emergent around 3.5 weeks ago. He said if I had any left to put it down this wknd. I do in fact have ~1/2 bag that I was going to spread out using a light setting. Should I skip this and go right to step 2? If so, has enough time elapsed (~3.5wks) between step 1 and 2 to put #2 down?

I think my dead grandmother is more fertile than his yard.

lol, yes it's ridiculous the effort i put into the yard and it still looks like crap for the most part. my wife thinks i'm nuts for caring so much. A for effort though.

plus, what you said about the timing is important. it is hard to get a new lawn established this time of year. the sun is brutal, and the new grass has to compete with weeds, which have already seeded. last year i put some loam down and seeded an area where i can't get any water to. this was mid-September. granted it is a mostly shady area, but that grass came in better than a lot of areas i have done, mostly because of the time of year. the only water it was getting was from morning dew.

thanks. I've told the guy to hold off till sept. I will rotatill as well.

Too late to plant grass seed at this point.  Roots won't be able to establish deep enough and will dry out in the Summer heat.  Best to wait till mid/late August at this point to get that done.

    thanks for crushing my dreams.

That too.  My yard is still a disaster of leaves and debris.  I managed to blow all the leaves out of the bed before sundown Saturday.  Sunday was a wash with the rain and work.  I need 2 of me to be able to do all the **** on my plate right now.  Lucky I was at least able to fertilize a week ago.  But I need to complete leave/debris cleanup, mow, edge, mulch, dethatch, kill weeds.  Found out Saturday that my lawnmower isn't running again.  My neighbor pulled it all apart last year and all he could determine was that it may need a new carburetor.  Everything else was in good working condition and even that was clean.  Plug is fine, gas is annually run dry.  Just one more thing I don't need to deal with.  Sucks only have a few hours a week to work in yard at best.

carb probably has a plugged jet. Easy enough to check.

  7. If you’re still looking Here is a conversion sheet , use the Lesco spreader as the baseline and then find your zone / rate on the bag.

Thanks. I have a Scott's basic spreader. #6 worked out pretty well

  8.  Whatever you do, for the love of God, do not buy any Scott’s fertilizer at Home Depot or Lowe’s. I would also argue do not buy Lesco at Lowe’s. Spend a few extra bucks literally, and get that Jonathan Green, or the real Lesco at the landscape stores.
Don't worry, bought the lescos at John Deere. Got it done.

  9. what's the best way to gauge fert application with a rotary spreader? I've used a small Scotts rotary for years, but I don't use Scotts fert, so the dial # is meaningless for other types of fert. I picked up some Lescos today and will spread tonight. One bag covers 11,000sqft. I know my yard's dimensions and can get a general sense of how far one bag will go, but have no idea on the rotary dial #. Halfway open, 1/4, 1/3???? In the past, I've just winged it and hoped I didn't run out or put too much down for the given area.
