Don't forget ...those buoys may or may not be sampling at depth ...or very deep.  And circumstantially, the thermocline N of roughly the Del Marva is very thin...  So thin, in fact, that waders and swimmers can sometimes feel a discerned temperature declination at foot, once we get around the bend of CC...

Down toward the beaches of southern RI and in the Sounds...and around the Islands... it gets deeper, but even in those areas ... 20someodd foot of depth at the water's in the 50s ...

Point being, there can be quick turn around in "SST" based upon wind stressing on the surface ...tides..etc...  Also, depending on the source, the measurements may not be made at the same depth, in which case you could get fairly pronounced disparate readings...  I mean, down around Florida, where the 'cline's on the order of a hundred(s) of foot deep it probably doesn't matter -

3.4 m below MLLW for the portland buoy.

  2. Surprisingly the recent T-showers have been enough to keep the lawn somewhat green and in some places, new growth has established. Of course, looks pretty dry after any t-strms tomorrow, so we'll see how it looks end of next week.

  3. My lawns look really good considering the dryness over the last 2 months.  We have been rotating sprinklers giving the lawn about 3 hours of water a day and really pushing our 700 foot deep well to the limit.  Water about 90 minutes then let it recharge.  Use organic fert. 15-1-10 with a broadcast spreader set to 6 and have done that twice so far this season.  Hopefully we can score a nice T storm or 2 over this upcoming heatwave either by a MCS coming down on a NW flow or pop up storm later in the week. Here are some pics and the sunset over Newfound Lake last evening via drone.

  4. I just had a tipper problem. I dumped a 2liter soda bottle of water through it and shook the hell out of it and gave it a couple bangs...ran some more water through it..good as new
Probably pollen build up blocking the tipper
After further research, it seems like it could be the reed switch. Will throw some water in the bucket first to be sure.

Yesterday afternoon's line dropped a whopping 0.04" with one distant rumble, and I thought the forecast was a total fail.  (Temp certainly was - P&C said 91, we stopped at 71.)  Then the late evening Act II added 0.69" more in heavy but not torrential showers over 2+ hours.  Not enough but glad for a decent watering.

Though I often lament here about how severe storms detour around my particular spot, H-V's account is not one I wish ever to experience.  That said, I love a good light show, especially one that includes some close hits - not on the house, please.

We managed 0.64" and my wife said it was a decent little storm. She went to the basement with is our SOP during bad storms. I was at the gym in Windham and bolt struck close by. Hopefully most of the pollen is done now.
