  1. Global morality rate: 4.59% US rate: 1.49% So even in the US, this virus is 15 times more deadly than the typical flu that spreads 2-3 times more quickly and has no vaccine. https://www.livescience.com/new-coronavirus-compare-with-flu.html Virus transmission The measure scientists use to determine how easily a virus spreads is known as the "basic reproduction number," or R0 (pronounced R-nought). This is an estimate of the average number of people who catch the virus from a single infected person, Live science previously reported. The flu has an R0 value of about 1.3, according to The New York Times. Researchers are still working to determine the R0 for COVID-19. Preliminary studies have estimated an R0 value for the new coronavirus to be between 2 and 3, according to the JAMA review study published Feb. 28. This means each infected person has spread the virus to an average of 2 to 3 people. It's important to note that R0 is not necessarily a constant number. Estimates can vary by location, depending on such factors as how often people come into contact with each other and the efforts taken to reduce viral spread, Live Science previously reported.
  2. My buddy said 5 new cases at his hospital in Batavia. Their first cases at that hospital so far.
  3. And the oldest population in the USA is in Florida where they were extremely lax with their precautions.
  4. We're 3 weeks behind Italy and they are still peaking. So that would make it seem like we are at least 3-4 weeks away from peaking here.

  6. +569 deaths in Spain in last 24 hours with 4,165 in critical care. They're the next Italy.
  7. @Luke_Mages From NE forum. For dendrite-updating on 31 year old friend of a friend.who was on a ventilator with IV hydroxychloroquine. Transferred to MGH due to seizures and uncontrollable BP. No underlying health issues-fit non smoking 31 year old. So far fighting for her life and still with us.
  8. Duke Health researchers disinfect N95 masks to save supplies amid shortage https://abc11.com/6054013/
  9. As I already said. You can only base a disease mortality rate on symptoms. Impossible to do otherwise. All diseases throughout history are based on actual reported cases due to symptoms. Why would we change it with this virus?
  10. Iceland’s mass testing finds half of carriers show no symptoms https://english.alarabiya.net/en/features/2020/03/25/Coronavirus-Iceland-s-mass-testing-finds-half-of-carriers-show-no-symptoms?fbclid=IwAR0tN75Gpq_0Cfqw43VxZ2efm3lDfzVPjmDQqbfX07E-tiPXarWNoIqN01A
  11. Yeah this no gym thing is killing me. I don't have a home gym so have been going for a 2-4 mile run each day after work outside.
  12. That 49 year old healthy nurse I posted last night had asthma. I was diagnosed with asthma when I was around 10/11, but haven't had an attack in over a decade. I think I grew out of it, if that's even possible.
  13. Yeah we should honestly only be using CDC numbers. So much false information is spread around at a time like this. The Boston post is worrisome though. If that starts happening in every city due to not having the correct gear, we are going to have some serious issues. My medical professional friends have been reusing their m 95 masks since this all started.
  14. Not sure if anyone has seen this, but it's pretty bad in Boston. 160 medical professionals have the virus, which takes them out of the hospitals helping patients for at least 2 weeks. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/03/26/metro/dozens-boston-hospital-staffers-have-contracted-coronavirus/
  15. Here is an official breakdown of all cases by age https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6912e2.htm 14.3–20.8% hospitalization is quite high for age 20-44 demographic. I wonder what it is for the flu? I've never gone to the hospital when I've had the flu, either has my wife. This is the reason everyone was so worried about our hospitals being overrun. Hospitals already run at 80% capacity.
  16. Eric Kidwell RIP Kious Kelly, RN We rightfully honor our fallen soldiers who pass away in our service. So tonight, please spare a thought for Kious Kelly, RN a nurse manager who died last night in the "war" on COVID 19 in New York. He worked at a hospital where they don't have enough personal protective equipment, so they have been making their own gowns out of trash bags. Then, if you would, spare a thought for how you would feel if one of our soldiers was killed because they made their own body armor out of cardboard because we didn't have enough when the enemy attacked. And try to react with that same feeling for the people who failed them. Our nurses are the best of us. They deserve better.
  17. I need more details. Is it going to get much worse? My company has been fantastic through this. I'm considered a "life sustaining" business so we're still open. However, only working 25 hours a week, and getting paid for 40. They also offer 1 week emergency PTO that doesn't count against you, 2 weeks quarantine PTO that doesn't count against you as well. I'm really happy with what they've done.
  18. Italy: fines up to 3000€ for anyone found outside their home without valid reason, up to 6 years of prison if caught lying, 5 years if positive & breaking quarantine
  19. The head doctor of Trump said he expects the virus to come back in the fall again. Similar to the 1918 virus did, which mutated over the summer and came back.
  20. Look at Washington. You'd be making like $1400 a week up there.
