  1. Had cleared the board last night and just measured 0.75" compacted. I am not sure if there was any sleet overnight as part of that accumulation but right now, we have ZR. Current temp is 30 and it has been holding around that temp since just before 11 pm last night. Even though this radar depiction is showing frozen over me, I am getting rain so that warm nose is probably below the radar -
  2. Since you are the OP and the thread title looks to go through to 2/12, you could edit to include Round 2. I think most of the round 1 obses were posted (although some folks have had an extended round 1 and early round 2)!
  3. Have been getting some pixie dust flurries the past 20 minutes or so. Temp is 34. Much of round 1 has melted although there is still some left in colder spots.
  4. The fish were fun though - actually the non-fish like my anenomes and cleaner shrimp and brittle star and sea urchin were even cooler. Yup. In hock up the whazoo. Finally paid all of that off about 8 years ago.
  5. I don't think AWD will make any difference when driving on ice. You'll still slide. I suppose you would be okay if you are on main roads/highways but if you are driving around anyplace with an elevation on secondaries or back roads, those might be dicey (water on top of ice).
  6. Back then I also had 3 fish tanks - 2 of them saltwater marine tanks, where one of those was a reef tank (meaning continual measuring of the temperature and salinity and adjusting the lighting because the metal halide lamps back then were not as compact as they are today)... plus I was creating a home theater and buying Adcom amps and one of the earliest Dolby Digital 5.1 decoders, Parasound speakers and a laserdisc player (before the DVD players came out), etc. This is not counting my gardening. I over-program myself sometimes.
  7. Almost 20 years ago I had bought some cases and mobos (and a dremel too) and was building machines - including caseless ones, for a SETI farm (and overclocking the CPUs to boot) to sortof do what you have above but had so many other hobbies going on at that time that I never got around to actually getting it done. As it is, I'm still splitting this hobby with a couple others and even with me being retired, it's still crazy!! At least with a 2-in-1 I could plop it in front of me and keep the laptop on its current stand to the side. I have a desktop across the room with a 24" monitor and that machine is long overdue for an OS upgrade (I run linux on it) but.... other stuff intervened (like the Android Pie upgrade on my Note 9 phone a couple days ago that left me scrambling to re-configure the stuff that One UI changed on my home screen).
  8. Because I am live-streaming 6 IP security cameras on this machine at the same time too. I wanted to put that on something more "mobile" that I can use almost like a big "tablet". I wanted it to also be a touch screen so I can can pinch and zoom in/out (my current machine is not a touch screen). And yup it is up there in price but then I don't subscribe to pay model suites or to met blogs so the cost isn't that much different for my hobby purposes!
  9. It's alot better than Radarscope (IMO). You can customize the maps and it polls and posts the LSRs. I think quite a few use the WU nexrad maps which are good but I like seeing the LSRs that pop up on the display as systems move (you can hover your mouse over them to see what was reported) so I can get a verification of what is actually happening on the ground in a particular area vs what the radar is showing. They offer a free limited trial (that I think has all the functionality) so you can try it out before you buy. I did that and felt it was worth it for me and how I monitor the weather! ETA - here is an example from a year ago - 2/17/18 - where you can see the LSRs (if you click on one you get more detail regarding where and exactly how much and/or what else is being reported and by whom - "social media" or "ASOS" or "EMS" person, "COOP" etc) -
  10. It's not a site. It is the GRLevel 3 program that I have installed on my computer and it pulls nexrad and other data for display - http://www.grlevelx.com/grlevel3_2/ I am considering getting another (smaller - 2-in-1) i7 laptop so I can purchase their GR2Analyst program - http://www.grlevelx.com/gr2analyst_2/
  11. Okay although it may have started melting by the time you head back. It's already 32 here in NW Philly and melting!
  12. Looks like round 1 pretty much finished me up with 1.5" of snow (little or no accumulation from the pixie dust that had fallen over the past hour). Temp is now up to 32 so melting/compacting is starting to happen.
  13. Light snow has been pretty steady and am up to 1.5" now with temp bopping between 29 & 30. Also starting to see a little fog with dp @ 27.
  14. That would make sense based on where the confluence zone was setting up earlier this morning. Seems the southern parts of the CWA have gotten higher totals.
  15. Jim O'Brien was one of the local "top jocks" (DJ) on WFIL back during the '70s spinning "Top 40" records. WFIL was both the radio (560 AM) and TV (channel 6) station call letters (and both stations shared the same building for broadcasting). O'Brien eventually ended up on channel 6 doing weather presentations (as a non-Met) and certainly made it entertaining. Eventually the TV station call letters were changed to WPVI. And sadly, as an avid skydiver, one of his jumps became his last after his chute failed to deploy. Dave Roberts ended up taking over that duty. He kept the "good guys" and "bad guys" - And back when this site was "Eastern Weather", the head honcho StormTracker (Randy) and a bunch of snow wienies... err... chasers from the MA forum drove up to the Tug Hill, NY area to experience a major lake-effect snow event and they "live blogged" the experience, complete with pictures, so no you are not alone. I think most of us (at least those who had/have cable) know about the old days of the Weather Channel. They have gone through some wild gyrations of management and content but I know I and many others remember their awesome coverage of the 1996 2-day snowfest here in the Philly area and surrounding burbs. I still have the images in mind when they had to keep adding colors to their snow map because the forecast totals kept increasing. Now that I'm older, I don't know if I can deal with that much snow (or even close to it) anymore.
  16. Just wanted to acknowledge all the helpful info that our resident mets on AmWx have provided to us over years - and including back to the Eastern Wx days. Hope you enjoyed the day and thank you all for your invaluable knowledge and dedication! https://www.weather.gov/cae/NationalWeatherpersonsDay
  17. It "only" went to 58 here yesterday but is up to 64 here today! Snowdrops have started blooming today! Woot!
