  1. For sure Josh, only difference is we want it deep so we can head off in the woods and get stuck in it, you want it deep for the photos I’m assuming.
  2. Looks pretty good up your way snow depth wise Bo. We booked a vrbo place last night in Big Bay on lake Independence for the first weekend in March, hopefully the snow is at its deepest while we’re up there. We’re heading to the Keweenaw next week for a few days and heading to Grand Marais, actually Deer Park, in late February and Paradise the second weekend in March. Hopefully going to ride to Macinac Island next month sometime once the ice is safe enough. The snow in the lower hasn’t been very good at all this season, been plenty cold just really dry.
  3. Since 2000, the past 22 years, Detroit has had 1 top 20 coldest December and 7 top 20 warmest Decembers, I’m no climatologist but I sense a pattern going on here.
  4. Man this little storm moving through northern MI today really has the lake effect kicked into high gear, been a while since I remember seeing something like this. Some areas of the UP could be looking at 2 feet of new snow. Areas in the lower could get over a foot also. The cold air should start getting the ice on many inland lakes safe enough for fishing also by this weekend hopefully. Winter looks to finally be making a appearance in most of MI other then the extreme south east part.
  5. The lake effect kicked in pretty good for some of the snow belts in northern MI last night. Just looking at the camera we have up at our place at Higgins it looks like a 3-4 inch snowfall and it’s still snowing pretty hard. Not sure what the weather is going to do up there moving forward, sounds like more light snow off and on till Friday night when it could be a wintery mix till Christmas Day then cooler air should move in and more snow should start to pile up. Should make for a interesting week or so of weather hopefully.
  6. Ended up with about 3” here in the southern thumb, about 2.5” more then what I thought we would have got. Definitely looking like Christmas time out there now which is nice.
  7. I agree, many areas in our area are nearly average for snowfall so far this season but this morning was the first time I’ve plowed the driveway this season, the previous times we’ve received a grass covering snow down here in the thumb it’s melted of the asphalt drives in a day or less. Without any rain and the low sun angle right now I feel some of the snow we received around here this morning has a “chance” of sticking around this week.
  8. We’re probably a little over 3” so far here in the thumb just south of I-69 in St Clair county, actually surprised we’ve got this much already.
  9. I think the rubber band might have broke ☹️
  10. I agree Stebo, that’s to much. I feel there’s a point where that much snow would almost become a second job just keeping up with dealing with it like keeping a driveway passable, keeping weight off structures, driving in it and whatever else comes along with that amount of snow. Give me cold and snow mid December to mid March with roughly 100 inches of snow and cold enough air for some ice on inland lakes and I’m happy.
  11. What’s the least amount of snow you’ve had on the ground for Christmas since you’ve lived there Bo? Looks like you “should” start rebuilding the snow pack slowly starting this weekend going into Christmas Day.
  12. We’ve had the cold air do this way to many times to us so I’m sure I’m not the only one here who’s skeptical until it actually happens and sticks around for a decent period of time.
  13. Definitely a fast start in the snow department in the north woods. We’ll be up in the Big Bay area in February, hopefully the snow is stupid deep while we’re up there!
  14. 10” with system snow winding down, lake effect tomorrow should put totals over a foot in many areas.
  15. Another decent snowfall for northern lower MI, the heaviest snow has been shifting south and our area has really been getting hit hard today. Probably 6” already down and still snowing hard. Looking at the radar it looks the the heaviest snow will be shifting north of us shortly though. With the system snow today and the lake effect expected tomorrow there should be some decent snow depths in the mitts north woods by mid week.
  16. I agree hopefully the entire mid west can start getting some winter like weather before Christmas. As far as the Chicago peeps they really had some impressive snow depths last winter close to the lake shore, the pictures that I saw coming out of that area last winter looked like a northern MI snow belt area! I really hope this early start to winter in the Mitt doesn’t bite us in the butt in a couple weeks with a turn to warmer weather like we’ve all seen so many times before.
  17. Picked up another inch or so last night, everything is white again but it should melt off in a day or two. My cousin sent me a picture of out his front window at his place up near white fish point and they look to have 4-5 inches on the ground up there right now. We’ve probably had 10-12 inches already this Fall which is above normal for our area, we only average about 85-90 inches a year, areas just 20 miles to our north and west average 120 inches plus.
  18. As much as we can count on a warmer then normal winter lately we can also count on February being the one month that seems to delivers most of the winter like weather we do end up getting.
  19. https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/temp-and-precip/us-maps Using this noaa site and looking back at the last 20 December-February time periods it’s been warmer then normal 14 out of the last 20 for the state of Michigan. There was 3 below normal and 3 average periods in there also. Again this is only for my state but to think the past 20 years the Meteorological winter months of Dec-Feb have been warmer then normal 70% of the time makes me feel like a Lions fan thinking there going to have a good season only to be disappointed year after year is like a winter fan in MI thinking it’s going to be cold this winter. The Lions have won a single playoff game in the past 50 some years, was that our 2013/2014 winter?
  20. It’s been a snowy few weeks up here in northern lower in places. We had our 3rd or maybe it was our 4th grass covering snow this morning. It mostly melts during the day but that’s normal for early November snows for the most part in these parts.
