I was in Central PA when Irene hit as a cat 1 and I still lost power despite it just being tropical storm force winds lol. People really underestimate lower end storms

Cannot really compare the two, PR is reporting their entire grid failed.
Localized outages happen all the time from TS force winds up here from deciduous tree falls.  Trimming in the right away prevents nuisance outages but once gusts get into the 50s and 60 larger limbs and uproots become more widespread resulting in your typical distribution fault type outages affecting 10s of thousands of customers at a time.

I'll take 2 more months of todays. Perfect weather for just about anything outdoors.

At a soccer game near Hagerstown earlier and these suckers were everywhere.a00b5e5601d8e3bc0009ef1ddfa0e79e.jpg

We've been inundated with them here.  Bases of southern pines look like they have barnacles which are the egg sacs.  Been at it in full annihilation mode.  Just don't think we're gonna eradicate them.  Seems about as effective as stopping a train with a table tennis paddle!

Yup…cut the grass warning by Saturday evening in effect…WB 0Z EURO.

    Perfect timing for me!

Will be on the clearing saw just after dawn tomorrow to tame the line and on the zero turn by lunchtime.  I do like this time of the year but wish the humidity would back off a bit.

I had to replace a pressure tank in the pump hall last year close to this time (09/18) and the humidity was unbearable for mid Sept!

This may be a totally off the wall thought but over on the tropic site Storm2k there was a post bringing up 1976 which featured season long  heat and drought in Europe and a similar hurricane season( SO FAR) to what we are having now. Those of us old enough remember the winter that followed in the east: historically cold but really not that much snow which was followed by 2 pretty cold and  snowy winters.

Do any experts on this board have any thoughts on that analog?

Winter of '77 was BRUTAL for sure.  I remember so many people saying it was "too cold to snow".  :D

If it's not going to snow, I'd much prefer milder temps especially given fuel prices.

Well at least you have memories of those times, I wasn’t yet born for 2001, can’t remember 2009 and was sick during 2016. The largest snowstorm I fully remember tracking and seeing was 9 inches of snow last year. So it irritates me a bit with how you complain a bunch about the winters and how you don’t get snow not realizing some have not gotten the privilege to even experience a mecs or hecs. That is why I appreciate the little events, because they are all I know.

Experienced multiple snow devils in a late evening blizzard in 1982!

Thing is, the stars were out!  The winds whipped up dry powder on the ground, temp was below 15F and visibility was zero.  Fun times.

wow, same areas of HarCo getting blitzed w water again

Yep.  I was in Belair, just north of downtown when it opened up.  Very close CG, instant flash and rifle sound report.  These storms show the importance of local, backyard reporting.  It's not uncommon to record 3.5" and your neighbor shows 2" for example.

  7. That was a refreshing, gusty thunderstorm here!  Nice close bolt sounded like a rifle shot.  60dBz rain was super heavy, the 8mm hailstones probably pushed that into that range (purple).  Nice temp drop for us.  Picked up 0.75 in under half an hour!

View to our south looks so peaceful!
