Crazy how tropical systems just want to spin the atmosphere inland. Wildest radar I have watched in years. And so much different from heavy winter storms. But of course we dont get those anymore. -

Cool watching the rain get stopped by the Blue Ridge on this loop. You guys to the East might actually get it worse than us. https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/nexrad/index.php?parms=LWX-N0B-1-200-100-usa-rad -

Perfect rain all day today. Never heavy. But steady all day. Just what we needed out here in the northern Shen Valley. Ground was hard as a rock and splitting. Now it is squishing when I walk on it. Debby may have literally saved us out here. -

My ground was so hard and dry that the rain is just running off of it like a river. Never seen that before in my life. -

Weekend forecast is fantastic out here after the front passes. Sunny and low 80's. High 50's at night. Will be nice to get out of the furnace for a few days regardless. -

Dont normally want a tropical storm out here in the mountains. The flooding can be very bad. But we need the rain so bad right now. I would take whatever I can get. My yard is literally splitting like it is the dust bowl or something. Worst summer of my life after the worst winter of my life. We are really getting beat down in this region. -
We got great precip. Actually 2 days in a row. No need to water the garden for a while. Wanted some high winds. But nope. Not this time.

Meh. Disappointing out here in the Shen Valley. I hope you all to the east get better. Tame AF here.

They changed the Shen Valley zone this year. I ignored it. Because I know my yard. April to early May frosts are normal. Bigger question for me is WHAT or WHO made them change it? https://www.ars.usda.gov/news-events/news/research-news/2023/usda-unveils-updated-plant-hardiness-zone-map/

2024 Mid-Atlantic Garden, Lawn, and Other Green Stuff Thread
clskinsfan replied to mattie g's topic in Mid Atlantic
Depends where you are. The USDA screwed up big time moving the Shen Valley to a warmer zone it appears. Dont get me wrong I would love to have an extra 2-3 weeks of growing season. But a lot of people are about to lose their gardens this week. -
The USDA should not have changed the zones this year. People are going to lose their gardens. I kept my stuff in the greenhouse. But this is why you dont fuck with planting calendars if you are the government.

Grape vines have started to do their thing. 3rd year with mine. I hope to score enough to make some wine this year. Not really growing wine varieties. But they will still work. -
Sleeting on April 4th out here in the Winchester area. GTFOH with this garbage.

Ha. I posted in the long range thread because it was crickets over there. Now I see we already have a thread for the last paste job of the year.
