Heavy snow now and the ground has gone from wet to white very quickly

All snow in Gaithersburg now and that annoying dripping sound from the gutter has stopped. Rooting for y’all in DC!

Almost all snow in Gaithersburg now. Fat, heavy flakes falling but seems to still be a little rain mixed in. I hate the sound of rain dripping off the roof though

After lurking for a while, one thing I notice is the inevitable habit of jumping to conclusions before model runs finish. NAM looks good.

If this event does end up giving us 5-10 inches of snow I would be very concerned. I love snow I want this to happen but there is a good risk of area wide power outages because the snowfall rates will be super high and the snow super wet and thus heavy. This would lead to heavy wet snow falling heavily overnight onto trees that have just recovered from the snow earlier in the week. So if we connect the dots this would mean wide scale power outages which is concerning and something I have not seen discussed. That said I want a foot plus overnight with super heavy rates and big flakes.
Eh, I don’t see that happening. Maybe an isolated outage but it’d take a bigger storm to cause any widespread issues.

Lots of sleet in Gaithersburg and no sign of snow mixing in yet.

0z NAM certainly wasn’t as tucked as most other models, but the low was pulled farther west than 18z. Dry slot obviously an issue but I don’t hate the front end thump.

I agree. Even two years ago, DC had a snowstorm that lasted 2 days, and dropped a foot from Saturday morning through Sunday evening. It was a great storm, but I imagine most people don't even remember it, because it was easy to forget. And that stayed all snow, for two days, but I think because there was a lull, there was considerable melting during the lull, especially in the city.
I was moving to Maryland that weekend in Jan 2019 from Alabama and delayed my move by a week because of road conditions (had a 2 wheel drive car). Since I moved I’ve been thinking I’d kill for a storm like that! Hopefully this is the one, and anymore more is gravy.

Nice white coating with a few roads caving now in Gaithersburg. Snowing pretty steadily for the last 30 min.

Lots of sleet in Gaithersburg, with a layer of glaze on trees. Saw all the precip types, and it’s nice to end on a wintry note! Ended the event with a beer walk in the sleet, could be worse. Cheers y’all

Rain/Snow mix in Gaithersburg for a few minutes. Has since transitioned back to all rain.

Honestly plenty happy with the GFS/Euro. Earlier today many wouldn’t have been surprised if everything trended warmer/more rainy. Great to see models are holding and give most a chance of frozen, can’t be mad about that!

what? Wait... why? The gfs shows the most snow.. why not embrace it?
Yeah I don’t get the negativity.

Checking in from Gaithersburg here. Moved here from Alabama in 2019, so waiting on my first big snow. We got 5” here in Feb 2019 so anything more than that and I’ll be happy! Thanks for all the info, love this place! Now that winter seems to be returning, I’ll start posting more. Just glad we have something to track!

Mostly freezing rain with a few sleet pellets in Gaithersburg. Glaze of ice on elevated surfaces now

Just rain so far in Arlington. My boyfriend in Gaithersburg says he “thinks it’s snowing” so I’ll take that as a rain/snow mix haha

Yeah I went for a 30 min walk and even the main roads have caved with these heavy rates. This is the Downtown Crown/Rio area. I think it’s about 32-33 here. I have a terrible thermometer on my apartment balcony that runs about 2-3 degrees warm (says 35) due to building heat...thus my estimate lol.
