Wow. Your roads caved in Gburg?

In Germantown I feel like we are struggling to overcome meltage

Yeah I went for a 30 min walk and even the main roads have caved with these heavy rates.  This is the Downtown Crown/Rio area.  I think it’s about 32-33 here.  I have a terrible thermometer on my apartment balcony that runs about 2-3 degrees warm (says 35) due to building heat...thus my estimate lol.

If this event does end up giving us 5-10 inches of snow I would be very concerned. I love snow I want this to happen but there is a good risk of area wide power outages because the snowfall rates will be super high and the snow super wet and thus heavy. This would lead to heavy wet snow falling heavily overnight onto trees that have just recovered from the snow earlier in the week. So if we connect the dots this would mean wide scale power outages which is concerning and something I have not seen discussed. That said I want a foot plus overnight with super heavy rates and big flakes.

Eh, I don’t see that happening. Maybe an isolated outage but it’d take a bigger storm to cause any widespread issues.

I agree. Even two years ago, DC had a snowstorm that lasted 2 days, and dropped a foot from Saturday morning through Sunday evening. It was a great storm, but I imagine most people don't even remember it, because it was easy to forget.  And that stayed all snow, for two days, but I think because there was a lull, there was considerable melting during the lull, especially in the city.

I was moving to Maryland that weekend in Jan 2019 from Alabama and delayed my move by a week because of road conditions (had a 2 wheel drive car). Since I moved I’ve been thinking I’d kill for a storm like that!  Hopefully this is the one, and anymore more is gravy.

  4. Checking in from Gaithersburg here. Moved here from Alabama in 2019, so waiting on my first big snow. We got 5” here in Feb 2019 so anything more than that and I’ll be happy!  Thanks for all the info, love this place! Now that winter seems to be returning, I’ll start posting more. Just glad we have something to track!
