I am curious as to what aspect of an ice storm is appealing? Power outages, fallen trees????
Both of the above. Just fascinating watching ice too damage like that.

That's because there's no such thing as a trend when it comes to model runs. We like to think there is but there's not and that's why your statement is correct. Models don't trend. There digest data and spit out results. It might look like things are trending in a direction but that's something we have artificially created ourselves. Models don't trend

2.75” snow in Gaithersburg and the sleet transition just happened. Been walking around out there for the last 2 hours and it’s beautiful!

Reading the South obs thread there was a report of heavy snow in North Raleigh and Durham then some dude posts a picture of his front yard in Raleigh and it's dry as a bone....that's a serious cutoff dividing line
I saw that post and looked like there was sleet accumulated in that picture in Raleigh. So more of a dividing line between snow/sleet vs. snow/no precip in Raleigh/Durham.

Regardless of how much snow we get, it’s going to be a nice stormy evening to cook gumbo, watch the playoffs and enjoy the wind drive precip bouncing around outside. Cheers to the weekend y’all. Since I’ve moved from Alabama to Gaithersburg in 2019, we haven’t had more than 5 inches from one storm here. Maybe that’ll end before the winter’s over!

Any wrap-around snow east of the Shenandoah Vly would be insignificant. The GFS overdoes that in these scenarios. the boundary level temps will be mostly above freezing, and it may even mix with rain at times, so nothing more than a dusting or coating.
I can tell you’re not a glass half full kind of person. Any wrap around is always a bonus!

DT can be such a great teacher when he’s medicated. There’s a lot of good info in this video. A lot of self-back-patting too, but worth the watch IMO.
Wow I really did learn a lot from that video, thanks for sharing. He’s a lot better teacher than I ever would have suspected after following his Twitter for the last year.

The line of non-virga snow hasn’t moved in hours. Most of this will be passing through by the time it snows enough to bring temps down and really start accumulating. Climo won out tonight. Just not our night.
Oh stop being a wet blanket…it’s going to snow plenty.

Light sleet/snow mix now in Gaithersburg. Nice to have a good snow to freshen the ground up before the flip.

Beautiful moderate to heavy snow in Gaithersburg. Quickly turning the grass/road/sidewalks white.

So I’ve only lived in this area for 3 years, and not too familiar with the microclimates of some cities. I’m wondering specifically what’s up with the low amounts in Cumberland compared with the surrounding areas? Is it a rain shadow from the mountains?
