dang, so 6.5" does seem low. Guess I'll have to mix family/spotter/poster reports.

Anyways we are probably around 4.1" in Charlottesville, I'll allow myself to add a tenth since it's been snowing here for 6 hours since I measured.

My measurements aren’t official or anything.  The 7” measurement was made by an 8 year old sticking a ruler in the ground.

Localized stuff is unpredictable. The precip is still advecting from the south. Havent even had the pivot yet. Should be a neat radar look once everything turns and gets the ne-sw orientation. I'm at 6.5" total and a clean 6" sitting on everything. If i managed another 1.5" that would be an 8" event which is 4 times what i first thought so won't here any complaining out of me

Can you tell where the edge of the precip shield will be?  Right now radar looks bare to SW of DC but I gather that will fill in?

dang, my pics don't look as nice when they are blown up on the forum. oh well

HRRR wants to give Charlottesville and Arlington another 1-2"... I'd sell my soul for some good rates in the daylight rather than this snizzle we've had for the past 3 hours.

It’s picked up here in Arlington.

Pattern is still progressing. Until the ridge centers over Greenland we will be vulnerable to a cutter.  That looks to happen around Jan 25. Before then it’s epo pna driven and storms can go west but it’s not a bad look and we likely would get something in the period given all the waves and cold around. But if you are looking for epic pattern that looks to be later...towards February

Thanks.  Amazing to think that we are just getting started.

big model fail tonight...fv3, gfs and GGEM all rain. We lost 40 inches from the FV3 in 2 runs!

Yeah.  Rainstorms in the middle of prime climo during an epic pattern would be hugely disappointing.  Have to think one of those storms hits us though.
