Seriously - last November was nuts if you were up for earning turns. Magic was incredible prior to Thanksgiving.

26 pages deep, if this were mid winter almost no one would give a hoot. I think we (most of us) are bored and waiting for winter, i know i am.

35* for a low this morning. Amherst has had multiple frosts the past two weeks but we cannot get one here. I'm guessing being a bit higher up has something to do with it. Want the mosquitos gone.

Think it will be colder here tonight. Already 41 with the woodstove cranking.

So we got our soil test results back from our awesome back yard. Results look good to me. Plenty of organic matter which makes sense since last Fall's total rework included loam/compost then hydroseed. Yet, after all that and good soil results, it still looks like shit. The rest of the lawn areas tested (not pictured) were decent, but lower in some nutrients. I'm attributing the dead grass in those areas to chinchbug and/or grub damage.
Every pic of that area always looks bone dry. Does it bake in the sun all day? Is it compacted in or loose?

Couple weekends ago I burned 75% of front yard down to dirt with a weed wacker, blew it all out, threw down 2 yards of loam, aerated it all, a bag of Scotts Sun and Shade, rolled it, straw on top, and have been watering non-stop. Really impressed what has popped up in two weeks. Looking forward to Wed-Fri rain since I'm getting sick of watering it 2-3x a day.

Surprised no one has started wishcasting/discussing a Floyd-like track.

Bay Rd and the north side of the Holyoke Range has been slowly changing the past 2-3 weeks. Same for all around the Quabbin.

Got a firewood moisture meter yesterday and got my winter stoke going. Have about 3.5 cords <20% moisture for our new Jotul F600. However much of the red oak is still high teens and I would like to see it 15% or lower. Have another 1.5-2 cords of red oak seasoning for next winter that is already 20-22%. Pretty amazing it is all from gypsy moth damage and I only started collecting last fall. Still a ton more to take down around the yard and town.

Early season was pretty incredible last year. Friend's and I skinned Magic on November 21st after about 14". Since my wife and I are expecting this month and will have less time for skiing I'm sure it will be a historically snowy winter. Heck, there are trees in the Holyoke Range already changing color. You're all welcome.

More debris, mold, and moss gone. Trying to take out the grubs before doing some seeding in a few weeks.
When we bought the place last July, fugly.

They crushed Ware, Ludlow , Monson areas last 2 years so it makes sense they’ve moved west
We heated part of our home, and will heat the whole thing next year, due to them. The number of dying trees along the roads have made it so town/state/electrical companies, etc. just go around dropping trees next to the road and just leave the pieces for people to scrounge over. I have 2.5-3 full cords of oak ready for next year in our yard from roadsides. Will start scrounging for 2020-2021 soon.

What town are you in?
Belchertown
When skiing in the Holyoke Range one day this year one tree had over 40 on it just in the first 3-4'. We have two trees on the edge of our property on the road that look to be on their way out. Something about this area...

Think it is going to be the worst yet in western Mass. I've never seen so many nests on trees. Last fall I sprayed/removed about 50-60 nests around our woods and it looks like I did not put a dent in them.

5.5-6" depending where I measure. Only grabbed about 4" from 11pm on. Still an awesome pasty sight outside. 39" on the year.

Almost 2" down since 8pm. Going to bust low baring a massive change.
A little pre-season thread: Can Nov. 8 pull off an early win?

Looking forward to some flakes later but thinking more about a slick commute tomorrow morning in western and central Mass.
