Elevated valley location with higher hills to my W and N.  I'm around 350'.  I often do much better than the S valley but I'm not convinced of the higher QPF totals with this complex of a set-up.   I could see this area going 5-7" for round one and 3-5" for round two.

You being further N will help. I'm in some higher terrain of Belchertown and would love the RGEM to be correct but thinking 4-6" round one , dry slot since we are east of the river, then maybe an inch or two extra. No matter what happy to start December with white.

It must've come down pretty good here in the wee hours because I measured almost 1.25" on the picnic table at 6am.  That was completely unexpected in the valley.  (400')

Wow. Clearly about being north and not elevation outside the valley.

  3. Got a surprise wake up from the baby at 4am and the deck and other areas were partially white and crusty. Some parts of the lawn and woods are white with sleet.  Hugging 35* right now, I think we flip and get some good flakes later on.

I've been thinking of re-taking math classes...starting from algebra and then working all the way back up to differential equations...anyone else ever consider this? I'm just not certain it's worth it though. I think math is one of those things that you either just get or you don't. But I'm extremely weak (and continue to get worse) with math and feel like I don't remember even basic algebra anymore b/c I just don't use it. Maybe do some online classes?

HLM and other regression heavy stats then Bayesian for the win! Accounting for variance and predictive power is where it is at. I was weak in math (barely survived trig in high school) but stats is different than algebra, calc, etc. imo. Any much more useful - at least in research and predictions.

When there's wind? Yeah... I love t-bars and pretty much all surface lifts except rope tows.

"Wind" being the key at Jay - they have no problem shutting the tram and Freezer down for "wind" during slow midweeks in January and February. Is it warranted sometimes - sure. But it's an easy excuse.

Well after a steady run of 32 years skiing every season, I have no choice but to take this season off. I had TKR (Total Knee Replacement) surgery 5wks ago on 10/9. Fully aware I was going to miss this season. I am on the long road to recovery and by next season i'll be itching to get out there but I'm going to have to tone down my craziness when on the mountain which means no more jumps and bumps for this old kid. I hope you all have a great season, it appears to be off to a decent start with natural and pristine snow making conditions.

Best of luck!  You'll be back! (I thought hip replacements were anti-bump surgery???)

So we got our soil test results back from our awesome back yard. Results look good to me. Plenty of organic matter which makes sense since last Fall's total rework included loam/compost then hydroseed. Yet, after all that and good soil results, it still looks like shit. The rest of the lawn areas tested (not pictured) were decent, but lower in some nutrients. I'm attributing the dead grass in those areas to chinchbug and/or grub damage.

Every pic of that area always looks bone dry. Does it bake in the sun all day? Is it compacted in or loose?

  8. Couple weekends ago I burned 75% of front yard down to dirt with a weed wacker, blew it all out, threw down 2 yards of loam, aerated it all, a bag of Scotts Sun and Shade, rolled it, straw on top, and have been watering non-stop. Really impressed what has popped up in two weeks. Looking forward to Wed-Fri rain since I'm getting sick of watering it 2-3x a day.
