  1. Once the race is over, gonna take a walk. A peek out front and the street has caved. 32 degrees in Dillsburg
  2. 33 degrees with Mod snow, non paved surfaces caving in Dillsburg. Second time today to see accumulated snow. Had some nice pre dawn snow that coated even the patio with a wet dusting, more on the grassy areas. All that melted away and the un paved areas are caving again.
  3. Chiming in to add to those who had some snizzle/flakes/flurries today. Was sitting at a traffic light during an afternoon errand run and noticed some flakes on the windshield. Should have taken a picture of it, but I even saw a truck owner with mounds of snow left on his bed cover in the Giant parking lot off Winding Hill. I mean, how lazy do you have to be to still have mounds of snow on your vehicle 2.5 weeks after the storm? I even said out loud as I walked by it “what a lazy F***” Seems like the Canadian model is the only one still holding on for all snow for our area. Will be interesting to see what happens as we get closer. Point and click has temps in the high 30s and lows 40s all through the ten day. Hoping its wrong, but its early enough, we can still score.
  4. That is my untrained, snow muddled mind thoughts, as well. Still a lot of time, but I like where we are at. The warmup has backed off some. And who doesn’t like snow on snow? Haha. Let’s bring it home, even if it is the last one for the year. We did the cold better than expected this winter. Time to cash in on it.
  5. Absolutely. GFS is wintry to start and then flips to rain. CMC and Icon are pretty good for our area. Euro can’t seem to make its mind up. Plenty of time for adjustments. I’m rooting for this one to give a nice 3”-6” on top of what’s left after the “thaw” that is this week. Even though highs have been below freezing, that sun angle is doin numbers on my southern exposure. I have liquid runoff almost every day it gets full sun
  6. I can agree with that. Went out this afternoon for a small grocery run. All the roads are plastered with salt residue. Absolutely disgusting looking
  7. Really looking forward to this coming Tuesday-Wednesday. Haven’t fired up the smoker(s) since New Year’s Eve lol. Also, F these winds. Dogs won’t even go out past the patio to do their business. I swear, every year, from about thanksgiving until early March, we do wind better than anyone else in the globe.
  8. Got a 1/4” in pickle town. Nice, steady snow. Sirens in the background
  9. Starting to lay on hard surfaces. Just a dusting, but steady light snow for the last 20 minutes or so.
  10. Had a nice burst of light to almost moderate snow for about 15 minutes. Almost blocked the White Rock Acres “mountain” neighborhood from view at the height of it. Has since shut off to just some mood flakes. Glad to get something out of this cold. The German Shepherd loved it, until he tried to catch a rather larger chunk of somewhat solid snow with his head. He likes to play catch with snow balls. Maybe not so much anymore haha
  11. Get you a cheap angle grinder from harbor freight and that shovel will last you until it gets to the handle lol
  12. Those coal shovels are aluminum. You want a smaller, steel shovel for what you’re trying to do. I guess you could get both. But thats twice the money and twice the work.
  13. Took the long stroll to my local Ace Hardware store. They have plenty of hickory handled, steel flat blades in stock. $14.99
  14. Agreed. Had a new furnace installed at the end of December. Tank was topped off just prior, in early November, at 250 gallons. We are currently just about at the half full mark. Have never used more than 100-125 gallons in a winter until this one. New windows are now on the menu, once the furnace is paid down a bit.
  15. Its one of my favorite childhood memories. That family grocery store is no more. Giant came to town and the owner sold a long held family business. Now its a combination physical therapy office and a Dollar General. (I frequent both) shh, don’t tell. Haha Fairview didn’t Plow my bosses neighborhood until like 11 today. Went by on my way home. Will be first on my list of to dos tomorrow. They did his mailbox and driveway apron dirty. Even after I had cleaned both up with enough space they could angle the plow to not plaster them both. Ugh.
  16. At least you weren’t my parents. Flight cancels from San Juan due to weather. Found a flight to orlando and then philly. Canceled. Luggage lost somewhere in transit. Tank tops, shorts, flip flops. Finally got a flight to Dullis and rented a car to drive back. They did stop at the first Wally World for warmer clothes. They also had my brother house/dog sit with empty fuel cans and a snowblower about half a quart low on oil. Basically empty lol. Big brother to the rescue! I dragged him out to the garage by his nose ring and made him start it for the first time. No way I was taking that heat!
  17. Thanks man! I had a new guy with me Sunday. Was difficult to get any pictures or even get away for coffee. Ultimately, I just said, “ You stay here. I will bring you snow. Put it over there”. And tomorrow is day two of cleaning up. All that said, I couldn’t have gotten better results being solo. And I kinda like teaching the up and coming folks. He’s a good listener, when the earbuds aren’t in, takes criticism well, and owns up to his mistakes. He damaged some stuff, nothing major, all can be fixed in house. On the plus side, I found a hydraulic leak on my truck plow today that has been leaking some time undetected. Reservoir holds 2 quarts. I added 40 oz. Not lol gotta flip or replace a cutting edge on our push box, add some snow stakes since my regular plow buddy is still out due to surgeries and refuel, re grease and re fit for what should and hopefully be a much deserved banger for our area. Bring back summer school!!
  18. Very beautiful outside, reminds me of my childhood, being pulled in a sled to the local grocery store in 93 and again 96. Glad my two kids can finally enjoy some true winter weather. Kinda sad I hardly get to enjoy it in the moment with them, but I have inspired one hell of a reliable snow shoveler in my teenager. Came home last night after 12 hours of plowing to a completely clear property, a small one, mind you. I brought the plow home, anticipating having to spend 30 minutes to an hour clearing a spot. Instead, all was cleared, salted and wet. Today everything is drying and he is asking to ride along for the next storm. My answer: I need someone in the skid steer lol. Tomorrow marks day two of cleanup/prep for what could be a doozy this weekend. Bring it on home folks! Kudos to your son for the long shift. Been there, done that. I had just gotten out of the Army prior to the 2016 blizzard. First time every doing snow. Last thing they told me was keep it clear. 3 days later I was asked when the last time I had gone home was. The look on the guys face when I told him, “ about 3 days ago” , was one you might expect to get if you had a unicorn horn sprouted from your forehead region. Long story short, I told him I do what I am told until told otherwise and explained my service background. He was bewildered, yet in awe. Nice paycheck, though lol. About that 20-22 hour mark, you start to question yourself and how got to where you are. Next thing you know, you wake up and have to move more snow! Love it! Those days are over for me. Did 12 Sunday , 8 today and hopefully I can wrap up my cleanup by lunch tomorrow. If I don’t get the loader stuck again haha. I did manage to get out by sheer luck. I was about 2 minutes from grabbing my office manager and a tow strap. Experience hehe
  19. Right around 3” across the runway from CXY. Had to leave Dillsburg to make it in before the heavy stuff. Roads weren’t terrible, but not great either. A surprising amount of folks were out. Took me about 45 minutes to get here. Making some breakfast and then waiting for a couple more inches before we get started. Good luck to everyone, stay safe!
  20. Been watching a live stream on YouTube on and off. Already seeing this over perform in terms of snowfall in places like Arkansas and Kentucky. My BIL in Kentucky had to go out a few hours earlier than expected to do snow removal. Hopefully that translates down the line, when we get in the goods. Back to my pre storm nap lol
  21. I was hoping for a nice long duration, high total event. Went from going in early Sunday morning to thinking I can get away with coming in around lunchtime. Just thought with 24+hours of snow that 18-24 was approachable. This is a thankless job/hobby. Glad to only have one site to worry about vs the previous 8-12 I had to deal with at my other employer. Stakes aren’t as high now, but I do want the big one. So much fun
  22. Small world. I work for the owner. Can’t say enough about how much of a pleasure it is to work for him. Absolutely the best work environment one could ask for. I will be swinging by his place at some point during the storm. Main focus is on our shop though.
  23. I will be at the shop sometime Sunday morning. Gotta leave Dillsburg once I have about 3” on the ground. I plan for a minimum of 24 hours at the shop. Within walking distance of you from what I gather. Hell, we may even treat your lawn. Or your neighbors lol
