  1. I have a friend who lives near a brook that floods during minor events. I just said don’t park your cars in the road tonight because it’s going to pour. She’s like eh it’s only a little rain… I said well 3-10” can be a big deal. Your road floods in a summer thunderstorm. apparently weathermen are always wrong. So I tried to compare it to Sandy and what happened in mass and Vermont with the amount of rain. Trying to perk her internet to be a little more serious. I said remember the family we talked to about how their friends husband and cows were washes away. We are talking that sort of rain…I don’t think she’s taking me serious as she said we don’t live on a mountain with cows.. which leads me to a longwinded question, will rains be similar to what was experienced with Sandy? Trying to compare this a bit. Really there’s nothing to compare.

  2. it’s been raining down here near new haven since 6am. We are on a hill, but ground water comes up at times during certain weather events. Following because the last time we flooded basement wise was about 15 years ago. Ground was still frozen and we got inches of rain in a short time. Went to go to work and heard a splash in our basement. Sure enough we had 3-4 feet of water down there. The sump pump was unplugged. Keep in mind we were told it was never used and there just incase when we bought the house…

not looking forward to this potential. Never mind our garage may flood too

I took a walk and came across a huge chunk of dead tree down in the road. Is it a bad sign that the trees are dropping before the storm even starts?

  4. (CT) Just drive from Derby to North Branford. To note grocery stores are packed. Gas lines are formed. Local gas stations running out of gas.  Water is flying off the shelves. Madison and Groton areas are being told to evacuate. We had a hard time getting fast after sandy so I’m not shocked at the gas stuff..

Don't know.  I just don't see historic power outages coming.

it doesn’t take much for historic numbers. We have towns that lose power because it’s bright sunny. 6k people were without power for 2 hours Tuesday no idea why it was sunny… our neighbor lost a tree in the quick rainstorm we had the other day..Of all the stations in CT we lean towards NBC30 and WFSB because they don’t over hype

Next question.  Will the ferries be running?

They’re more than likely cancelling all of Sunday and maybe into Monday. Same with block island. Even if the storm isn’t dead on they may cancel just due to rough seas alone. Some days they’re up quicker it might be a wait and see

Why not block island? Maybe? Many will be cancelling their weekend overnights! However ferry service will stop Sunday and Monday  :)

It’s already busting in wester zones

this action .. I don’t know if this meets the qualification but looks a bit PRE like

I had to google pre but we had several torrential down pours here today and my guess about an inch in the last 8 hours based off the flood in our garage… wish our rain gauge didn’t float away

Dont forget the halloween snowstorm of 2011.   Knocked out power to most of inland CT for 5-7 days-a foot of slop on foliated trees....

True! We lucked out! We didn’t have an issue until 2 days after they blew a fuse on our lines and we ended up being the last restored

Have any examples from this century?

    Super storm sandy

Tornados destroyed Hamden like 5 years ago an entire state park was wiped out

    hirricane irene

    nemo blizzard

    isais

I am a weather watcher and not at all involved in studying, playing or being a met and I know this. CT infrastructure had an issue with trees and poor planning. Generally speaking we have lost power once for an extended period here in ansonia which is ten minutes from Hamden. Majority of our power are above ground lines and CT loved their trees. Many of our issues were trees too close to power lines.
