Flurries here off/on

First flakes in downtown Winston, very light
-
Still nothing falling yet downtown W-S. Little breeze at times picking up.

Moved to Winston from DC last summer. This thread reminds me of the MA forum vividly. Would love to see us and DC score a big one. I’d cash out 5-7” right now.

Lanie Pope goes with a 10-30% chance of accumulating snow over the WXII coverage area. Last time I checked their coverage area includes a few tall thingies called mountains!?! She may want to update that slightly for the 11pm broadcast.
Maybe that we’re still D4 out? But I hear you, pretty conservative even at this lead time given the model consistency since Sunday.

Is this the type of potential track where from NC Triad on a line to DC can all score 6”+ snow?
-
For those who do this for a living, if you had to set odds for inch of snow in the NC Triad...?
Despite the flashes of something major, for this early in the season, I’d take just some flakes flying and a slushy 1-2 inches in Winston.
-
Here in Winston-Salem, I’d settle for any measurable snow this early in December. Fun week of tracking for sure, already explained to fiancé what I mean by model watching.

Is thundersnow out of the question somewhere in the Piedmont overnight?

11pm news on channel 9 WFMY. Wouldnt expect Lanie Pope to be different.
Fox8 Van Damme Denton said about the same across Triad. Upped totals modestly from earlier. Slushy 1-3” but acknowledged multiple model support for higher. Warm ground, warm ground.

White rain is 0:1
I know. Was trying to make a joke, not meant to be scientifically correct :-)

I've seen this somewhere before. That's a 'Brick' wall-hanging isn't it?
Aren't we at best looking at 6:1 versus 10:1 on the map? Or maybe even 4:1 aka White Rain...

Well take it from a long time resident, keep expectations low...
Trust me, being in DC taught me to keep expectations low. Constantly on the rain/snow line, and with no elevation. It was just heartening to read those comments above, especially from a Met. (Believe the PRO FORECASTER icon means a Met)

GFS and NAM looking pretty bullish on the snowstorm for the foothills/NW piedmont area. Thinking a general 2 to 4 is probable. If boundary layer temps were a little better, this would be a 4-8 or 5-10 type story easily. Still think it might be for certain locales in the higher elevations. It's enough for me to escape changeover hell in raleigh tonight and hope to see a few inches of snow back in Hickory this weekend.
This will be my first Winter event as a Winston resident. Moved down from DC this summer. Maybe this could turn out decent here after all. Thanks for the good news!

PM Discussion from RAH does not seem too excited, at all. For anyone. Too warm, etc. 3PM update. Warmer surface temps among other negatives
-
Can no one just be happy with seeing some mood flakes this early in season? At best this would be super-slushy anywhere in our forum correct? Super-warm ground.

For this early in the season, I will really settle for just some snow TV. Maybe dust the car tops. But 90% of whatever falls will melt.

Alternating just flurry and some light snow, tiny flakes. Breezy
