  1. our Augusts have become much wetter, people talk about which months are warming the quickest (it's in the winter), but I'd surmise that August is the month that is becoming more wet at a faster rate than any other month.
  2. Hey neighbor, I used to photograph seagulls in the early days just to get some practice on BIF (birds in flight), but now I just consider them a nuisance. We have some Great Blue Herons here, have you seen them? Snowy Egrets? Cooper's Hawks? Red Tailed Hawks? Have you seen our parrots?
  3. I hate onshore flow and the high humidity that comes from it. How did we get the big heat at the end of August in 1948?? It's absolutely amazing that Central Park had three straight days over 100 at the end of August in 1948 and JFK had two straight!! That extreme heat was close to the beginning of met fall!!
  4. Nice weather station, but most of all, I'm loving these deep blue skies !! No more air pollution !!
  5. NYC came extremely close to having three days of 100+ which is outrageous in this era of foliage blockage and the fact that this happened in August, not July. It still did not match August 1948's three straight days of 100+ but this was the closest we've gotten to since then for three straight 100+ days at NYC in August. Tony could you post the 100+ days in August 1948 at all of these locations please-- I think this was the first month that the sensor at JFK came into operation.
  6. what I find ironic is that JFK's 99 was actually on the day prior to the hottest day in the other locations. LGA and EWR set the monthly records with their 104 and 105 and NYC was only one degree off with their 103.
  7. Thanks Tony!! Wow, the skies are so deep blue, I could live with this weather forever. Screw summer, screw winter, just have this weather 24/7/365 lol
  8. wow this has to be the greatest August heatwave that I lived through, do you have the same list for NYC and JFK too? I think they came close to 100 on more than one day too.
  9. 1944 had 3 100+ days at both NYC and EWR, 1948 had three in a row at both NYC and EWR and 2 in a row at JFK, I think that might have been our most extreme August heat, although 1953 definitely needs to be mentioned as having our longest heatwave on record.
  10. Tony, how hot was the August 2001 heatwave at both EWR and NYC, did we come close to having three straight days of 100+? I know JFK never made it to 100 in 2001 but they hit 98 on one day and 99 the next day I think? I was looking for your 8-7-2001 historic records post but could not find it.
  11. No those southerly winds are much worse, if we get a westerly wind we will get nice 100 degree dry heat, which is much better than 75 degree dew points
  12. actually that's not true Chris, on August 7, 1918 Newark hit 105 and NYC hit 104 August 2001 gets honorable mention for hitting 103. We have a long way to go to match the kinds of heatwaves we had back then.
  13. Meh Central to northern Queens heat is normal, it better make it to 100 all the way down here, otherwise it's not historic, it's just normal heat
  14. the tropics usually get busy for us after August 20th and more likely in September-- this is how I remember 1995 and 1999 The only hot summer I remember with a tropical event in August is 1991, which came at the tale end of a really hot summer
  15. It would be nice to keep the super high dew points away permanently, I can't deal with 75+ dew points.
  16. dry heat is easier to tolerate.... do you remember anything about the heat in August 2001, I remember it as only feeling hot for that one day.
  17. we actually want 100 degrees with westerly flow, not a disgusting southerly wind with high humidity... onshore flow is far worse and on top of that low 90s is really boring, if it's going to be hot make it historic and fun, not low 90s mediocre heat. CC has made our extreme heat less extreme and more humid, so the climate models were wrong about that for years before they *corrected*.
  18. Yes exactly and on top of that the air pollution is gone, that was the best outcome of the entire week.
  19. Records:Highs:EWR: 101 (2001)NYC: 99 (2001)LGA: 98 (2001)JFK: 99 (2001) wow we came this close to hitting 100 on multiple days in August 2001
