Light to low end moderate snowfall during the squall. Nothing heavy enough to accumulate. Sunny again.

As much as I loathe winter I’m a snow squall fan.

Maybr because a snow squall is like the winter equivalent of a summer severe t-storm ?

The 30 degree line is now around the cross county parkway, anywhere above there is getting really really messy and anywhere below may get messy if that line drops any further south.

Noticeable difference here in the last hour. Trees are icy and sidewalks starting to ice over. I'm down to 29 in the bx. Based on NYC micronets, 28 at Lehman College, 29 by Parkchester, 29 at Queens College

I understand about being cautious but the number of closures today is absolutely ridiculous. Roads are still warm from last night plus they are out salting. Doesn’t really turn bitter until well after dinner in most of the metro. (Normal dinner time not City 8-10PM dinner time)

I think it's a byproduct of our modern litigious society.  No one wants to face backlash if someone gets into an accident because they felt compelled to go to work or school.

Yup I agree..and having the remote option to fall back on makes it an easier decision for some places.

Quite a gradient, even if it lasted for like 15 mins. I went from 56 to 37 btwn 630 and 730am. It did feel damn good this am while it lasted.

The other reason that makes 8.3 suspect is that there was more than that north of the Park in the Bronx and also more than that just west of the Park in NE NJ

It was tough to measure but it avg 9" - 11" outside of snow drifts or bare ground areas. So I call it 10.5" matching the closest official place at LGA.

Around 8" is believable in the Park to me. For a while radar kept showing moderate snow bands not getting past a line from about Westchester sound shore areas, middle of the Bx, western Qns down to parts of BK. Those higher totals north of Midtown into the Bronx etc are more ENE or NE, not just North. Areas near the Hudson in NJ look comparable to Central Park, and places north on the Hudson side of Westchester County a little less.

This  storm definitely has one thing most ,if not all, the other heavy snowstorms have not had, the frigid temperatures. The snow is just blowing all over. 14 degrees and falling all morning.

Reminds me of lake effect snow when I was in college. Was my introduction to light powdery snow and how easy it can stack up..also how much easier it is to deal with that the usual wet heavy stuff

Was pretty heavy smoke in the bronx earlier this morning too. Now just a haze in the southwest bronx

That make sense..I started further NE at Pelham Pkwy and it was increasingly hazy going SW to 149th/3rd Ave. Coming up the stairs near WTC white smoke in the air look like snow for a sec. You can feel and taste it down here. I think wind is more due west now instead of SW earlier helping to push it uptown more
