Over an inch of snow in D.C
at Regan National sitting in the Potomac...that means probably like 2"+ in a lot of the District itself.
NWS had to put up the Winter Weather Advisory and WSW N&W for us

30, first freeze.
If we manage to get any acclumation in the city how unusual would it be to have a first freeze and first measurable snowfall basically at the same time
-
Had a low of 34 here. Its funny now NYC is usually one of the last places to have a freeze. Places like Huntsville, AL, Charlotte, Raleigh, DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Atlantic City have all had there 1st freeze.
-
Thought they might issue a freeze warning for NYC but guess we will be a touch too mild. I actually still have a few peppers outside still holding on. Freeze warning for southern Westchester, Hudson, eastern Essex, NJ.
Has Nassau County technically had a freeze yet?

Driving through Queens today… Anybody else notice how astounding the colors are?
I can’t remember a nicer day if you want to see color around the city. And right on schedule if not slightly early
Yeah, in the 5 boros it seems almost completely devoid of color then it's like a switch flipped overnight to peak color. Early Nov is normal peak for NYC but to me it was much less gradual than usual. It went from next to nothing to amazing colors in a few days.

Except for areas within range of coastal flooding, seem like a run of the mill dreary day to me. From what I saw even during very the early am the rain wasn't really heavy for any extended period of time.

Low 42 this am. Have a few peppers planted, still producing albeit it a little smaller. Wonder how long they will hold on.
I used to drive well in westchester regularly, now I work in the City, I feel so lost I dont get to see any frost/freeze lol. I wonder if the leaves are even changing color outside the city. It pretty much green and lush here. I used to see some nice color along the Sprain to Taconic about this time of Oct.

Got down to 41 this morn. Refreshing but I'm still not adjusted to chilly weather and dry air especially. Feels like I've gone from summer to Thanksgiving in the blink of an eye.

Several of the other stations around the area had their latest first temperature below 50 for the fall.

I think the White Plains record is the most impressive. It can get pretty cool there espically since its not actually in the city of White Plains

Looks like intense storms just to my north along the Bronx Westchester border. Here it's light rain, breezy with lightning and thunder. Temp down to 80 dew 73

Except Atlanta actually has air conditioning in more than 20% of the buildings.
Yeah, and much more car centric culture there. In NYC you are likely to spend much more time out and about or waiting in the heat.

The most precise answer to the inquiry is that NYC is in the Northeast, and also Mid-Atlantic, which partially overlaps the Northeast (think of it as a Venn diagram). Every definition I have seen indicates PA and NJ northeastward are Northeast. However, states like DE, MD, and more often, Virginia, are sometimes not considered Northeast, but they are Mid-Atlantic. I've seen some classify VA as Southeast (if so, VA is Mid Atlantic and Southeast). Regardless, these are strictly geographical designations. Our region is both Mid-Atlantic (northern) and the Northeast, as the larger umbrella region.
This is how I always thought of it. The confusion stems from people thinking that Northeast and Mid Atlantic are mutually exclusive.

New rooftop mesonet site for the Bronx. It's 189 feet up so the temps will be different than the surface.
I was waiting for the Bronx one. It'll be interesting to compare to. I'm on the other side of the NYBG, just under 2 miles SE of Lehman.
