  1. How frosty do we think next Monday morning will be? I just got my tomatoes in the ground, so I'm bracing for the worst I guess.
  2. So, what do we think about the threat of frost from here on out? Is Monday night looking sketchy or no? I need to get 'maters in the ground.
  3. I'm biased I guess because I'm contributing, and I know cheaper equipment is not always super reliable, but I'm quite fond of the Weather Underground network of stations. I can get a pretty good idea of what's going on locally looking at the site. I'll trust the crowd sourced data going forward before single official stations' observations when possible. I do very much appreciate MRX and the Weather Service in general, don't get me wrong. 17 degrees yesterday morning here between the ridges in Halls. Microclimates are always interesting.
  4. I held off booking a tent camping trip for spring break until yesterday. As soon as I reserved the site the GFS starts spitting out snow. Oh well, my kids will just have to deal with it! It'll be more memorable than sitting around looking at screens.
  5. Ok, which one of you posted the Sweetwater wind damage mPing? "Lawn furniture or trash cans displaced; Small twigs broken" Edit: LOL
  6. The question I have is, when is John leaving to watch the super bowl in Chatty? I'm planning my snowman around that.
  7. It snowed pretty hard for awhile between the ridges here in Halls, currently 33.6 degrees.
  8. Yay thunder! That's all I need to hear to know it's gonna snow January 22nd. Book it.
  9. That clipper was awesome, at least 1.5 to 2.0 here, the ground was legit covered. The road was destroyed early on. Evidently there was a salt truck that ended up in a ditch in Knox county. I'm a fan of MRX but they missed this one pretty big for the area.
  10. It's beautiful here in Halls. Roads got insta-white. We've had dimes, nickels, and even quarters mixing in. Hoping what's west of here on the radar holds together.
  11. I like that the 01z RAP is higher than any other American model snow total for TYS. We're in the wheelhouse baby! Edit: now with the meteogram
  12. My mom just texted me this from Paris TN: "It's coming a blizzard and I show 11 degrees. Winds are high, -4 wind chill, brutal night. Wish it would stop. Radar shows we are in the middle of the snow storm."
  13. You can check the weather station link in my signature, but my neighborhood is just to the east of the Weigles right as you enter Halls on north Broadway. There are quite a few weather stations in the valleys and ridges around here on Weather Underground. I forgot you're in Fountain City!
  14. Hello neighbor! I'm just south of Halls proper, nestled between Black Oak Ridge and Beaver Ridge in Hines Valley. The roads are brined, I guess we will see how effective that is.
  15. I'm excited to see this one unfold. The fact that it's all up in Christmas is a nice bonus.
  16. The 21z RAP is coming in colder. Has TYS at -4 Friday morning with a -22 wind chill. It's also dryer than other modeling.
  17. I believe it was in Feb '14 or possibly '15 when we had a surprise inch fall at 20 degrees. I saw more wrecks during that event that any other in memory. Granted Knox county didn't bother to put down salt, not that it would have helped a whole lot at those temps, but still. If the Kuchera ratios of 24 to 1 posted earlier are accurate, what little QPF we do get will me maximized and roads will be wild.
  18. It was the symbology of the maps that really hyped the weenies. No cotton candy gradients, Earl rocked a serious contrasting color scheme. We were like “I’m right on the edge of brown and white! Between 14 and 18 inches bruh!”
  19. Long range NAM clowns, particularly of the Earl Barker variety (if I'm remembering his name correctly) were high quality entertainment in years past.
  20. The NAM is all over the place with the timing and amount of precip. Like John said, it's still early for that model. It'll be interesting to see where it settles the next couple of runs.
