Yeah the southern end of Mansfield rises up another 500+ feet behind the crest in this photo (the Nose is above this).  The Chin to the north is the highest spot at 4,395ft.

This photo is of 1,500 to 3,400 foot elevations.  1900 vertical feet of relief in photo, but the lift does 2100 verts in 7-8 minutes.  I’m biased but it’s one of the best chairlifts in the East.  You are transported very quickly through different climate zones.

Thanks for the great explanation!  So that lift goes up another 200 ft behind the crest there…right?  Can you post a picture of the next 200ft the lift travels, which I assume is part of the extra 500ft behind the crest you speak of in that picture..to show the Nose?  Whenever you get a chance?

I believe the shut down this coming weekend every year.

Well whoever shuts down…it won’t be from lack of snow…especially not with what they have coming again tomorrow.

Windows and doors shutting quickly.  Might even see a white coating down here while the upper elevation snow plots get smoked in the upslope flow on Wednesday.  One day wonder for spring today.

Plenty of snow for now.  Today was great.

Freak, the top of the mountain in that picture..does it go up and beyond more  than that picture shows?

We know how this will go. We may get like a week of Spring but we'll probably jump right into upper 70's and 80's and start increasing the dewpoints.

I don’t know this year…the cooler temps are hanging on.  I know many years we snap to big heat at some point, but I doubt it this year, this early…I think that will take its time to come…but eventually it will of course. But I’m fine with mid to upper 60’s to near 70, and sun for a few weeks too, then slowly ramp it up.

still mixed precip..ice pellets/mangled flakes on the car hood/windshield.

This storm transplanted to a month or two ago would be 6-12" here, easily.

    38°  .5" since midnight

Oh ya..even a month ago would have been fine. If you go back two months to mid Feb, for sure.

We are out of this cold pattern . It’s slow.. but it is progressing

But the point is, it/this has hung on a lot longer than most thought.  Sure, we’ve had some warm days tossed in, but not many at all.  That’s why the foliage/green up is significantly behind last year and the year before.    Obviously as we continue to progress through spring, the nicer weather/warmth will come; but it’s taking its sweet time this year.

Sounds like a good job for CoastalWx!

Odd that the HRRR just picked that one area repeatedly.  Why didn't it do it for other mtn peaks that were even higher then Brace Mtn in the area?  The 3 km NAM does this systematically all the time for all higher peaks, but HRRR singnaling out one mtn for multiple runs?  Not sure I have seen that before.

So did that peak get blasted with 20”?

    Lol. Where do you live?

    It’s not cold for 8 a.m.

    Average low here is 34. It’s 33.

Some of you guys do nothing but this forum but retain zero information.

I honestly don’t know how you can be a MET, with the nonsense you come out with.

As Ginxy showed you…it’s significantly colder than it should be already, and it’s supposed to be 39-40 degrees here for the high today, which will be 16 to 17 degrees below normal.

And why the heck would they schedule a big event in April up here.. I was thinking about going but idk now

    FB_IMG_1744460842129.jpg

You don’t know now??  The thing is cancelled. Lol.

They gambled on decent weather(dry anyway), and it didn’t work.  Most of the time by April 12th, it’s usually not snowing heavily and really accumulating.  But today it did.  Winter not letting go.

It just turns into a mess. Line freezing in the guides and snapping, the water freezing up and messing with electronics, lithium batteries + the cold can lead to issues too problems too. It would be a challenge but could also get really expensive. The last really cold tournament I fished I also had a rod basically explode in the hand on a hookset and had to get graphite/carbon fiber splinters taken out of my hand at urgent care.

Ahh ok…makes sense. Thanks for the explanation.

The last 7-10 days of the month look like more sustained 60’s at least

I hope so…but this mantra has been repeated for a month now, and it hasn’t happened yet.  But at some point climo should take over.
