Yeah it's picking up nicely. I have 5" here so far. I think we should at least be able to get to 6. Beautiful out there with the wet snow coating the trees. Best storm in a long time.
hope so too. No complaints considering 3 days ago I threw in the towel on this one

Terrible job by the models
Areas to our north are getting crushed
not all. And the northern areas always seem to cash in with these events. Colder and the heavier stuff gets further north than modeled

I can't complain too much as we did way better than most in CNJ/NENJ this year by getting lucky with good bands, which is why I had 7.3" before this storm. Still hoping we get to 6-7" assuming it fills in and we snow well for 2 more hours. We'll see.
Back to big fat flakes here

Nonsense. Let it play out. It's happened many times over the years. It is what it is. It doesn't mean we won't see anymore snow but we were stuck in it for an hour at least

It is the default setting for snow in this area. It will find a way to underperform here most of the time. I have never gotten an explanation as to why, but I've watched it for at least the past 8-9 years or so. But we got some and its a nice wintry day out, and lots of people got to sleep in and blow off serious work for the day. If your are an essential worker well that's the way it goes. We need you folks. Guess I'll read for a bit then go clean up.
Banding usually sets up north and west, coastal takes the heavy bands east. We get stuck in between. 12/26/10 is the exception.
I don't think we're necessarily done but with the lighter rates compaction and melting becomes an issue

Starting to pick back up again

I'm assuming that's subsidence - we're stuck in it too
Yep would've gotten 7 or 8 otherwise
Still could I guess if we get lucky later on

About 5" very light now and started to melt/compact

Thanks. Channel 4 about an hour ago said the heaviest will be from 9 to 11 for NYC.
I agree

I've noticed that storms tend to come in quicker and leave quicker than expected. Yesterday, most model depictions had snow until around 3 pm for today. Heard some sleet on and off last night, that was probably an indication of the storm coming in quicker
Yeah we had very little rain out of this as it went over to frozen pretty quickly

Once the storm intensifies a bit quicker, it should throw some precipitation back west again. But yes, this storm is moving quicker than expected, should end much quicker than thought yesterday.
I always expected it to be done by noon. It'll probably be lighter after 10 or 11

I hear cracking under the weight of the snow. It's probably the neighbor's bamboo

Hope your right, storm seems to be pulling away even faster? 3.5" here in Garwwod NJ, central Union County. It was snowing heavily, but has backed off to just moderate...
Hrrr says it's lighter stuff after 10 at least for us west of the city

Hrrr has also been trending south the past 6 hours

I am unqualified to comment here, so please excuse my lack of education, but I seem to vaguely remember that happening here in Somerset County NJ during the big snowstorm in January 1996 - the storm that shut down the state for a few days. Granted that was an usual storm and I'm sure the temperature profile preceding it was more favorable.
Temps were in the teens for that storm

Then you have the rgem which gives practically nothing to the interior

so you agree with the 0Z EURO amounts ? We should have a forum snow amount contest - we used to do that back in the old days...
No but several models have a heavy thump where we get nearly .75 to 1" in 6 hours. 72 hours out all options still on the table

yeah it really helped to have snow/sleet predawn to lay down that foundation. Nothing has stuck to pavement the past hour despite sold returns
