  1. The n/w shift has been real in many cases. I've gone from 15 plus to half an inch, and points in between, and I'm far from making a call, lol. But what falls will stick...none wasted, so there's that. I'm sure pulling for you to get sn/ip. Sleet, sleet, sleet...wishes do come true...listen to Jimny, Larry. Well, before the stars get covered...so be quick.
  2. Some very healthy totals, but airport totals. I wonder what backyard totals were. Is there a spotter archive?
  3. All the focus is on amounts, like it's a contest. Climo doesn't give a crap if you see a flake or a foot. If folks want better predictions then call you senator and demand a substantial increase in money spent on accumulation of accurate data and super computers to digest it. When I was a kid all I had was reports to pilots at the airport. At 7am daily. Things have come a long way, but could be infinitely better with some funding. Why is the doc generally the king? Because it's in Europe.
  4. There are kids in Fla who will see their first snow, and make life long memories, so it's hardly a fail for them. Maybe some kid is standing by the family car ready to go to school and the clouds will pour sleet down on them, and they'll be forever changed. Not many hills in Fla though, or S Ga. And some will get the bejeebers scared out of them by zr, but it's still a memory down the road.
  5. My point forecast us up to 60 percent for snow, but the Thursday zr is gone. No precip showing. Things are in such flux, it's crazy to worry about run to run changes. Maybe if it wasn't potentially an historic storm. Maybe if there were more data and more supercomputers, but there aren't so things change run to run.
  6. Sleet, sleet, sleet...and you have to believe in wishes, Larry...and something about a roast chicken
  7. Just 20 percent chance. It was snow last night. I imagine the present system has to get done before Thur comes into focus. A follow up sys has been on the maps but last night was the first time it showed up on the point forecast. The bitter air will have to mellow fast in the column to go from sn to zr in two days. I imagine it will be back to snow soon. I was just glad to see frozen mentioned at all.
  8. My point forecast is now up to 50 percent snow for Tues. and the snow chance for Thurs is now chance of zr.
  9. My point has snow in it for Thru now.
  10. I'd gladly trade snow for sleet, but Larry claims wishes don't do anything. Now I know why when I wished for a dollar from the tooth fairy all those years ago, instead of a dime, I ended up with a nickle
  11. Does that work for sleet...really? Can I roast a chicken and pull in a sleet fest?? I've just been chanting...sleet, sleet, sleet.... And all I got was a quarter inch.
  12. Don't touch it. And don't get it until the last minute. Open the freezer put in, then don't open the freezer again until the power's back or you're starving, lol. Have some neighbors over to eat up space for the ice. Wear gloves and glasses.
  13. Only 3 1/2 counties away. Keep it coming up and maybe you'll be out of the zr, and I'll be in the sleet and snow, instead of all snow! I'd love 4 inches of sleet again..big time....but 15 inches of snow would be hard to turn down for sleet. 8 inches sure, but over a foot, no way. Right now it's near 60 so dreams of frozen seem so far away.
  14. Boo..back in the crapper again. Sorry.
  15. Larry, try to find a dry ice supplier you can buy from just before the zr, if it comes. And the UK not the Canadian buries you, but which ever they give you snow, so all is well, lol.
  16. Try Walmart. If the Canadian verifies you'll be buried in snow, and maybe it won't be as bad unless trees fall on lines, but the outages won't last as long. NC routinely sees a foot of snow, and I don't see the horror stories that I do with zr. Look on line and order online to pick up at the store. You get better deals that way as long as it's in stock. You don't want it shipped to the store. Home Depot too, Lowes, Tractor Supply maybe.
  17. I asked an electrician friend and he thinks 300 might not be enough to turn on the fridge. Like a well pump it takes an initial surge to spin the thing up...figuratively. So think about at least a 500 for one, or better call the manufacturer and ask what watt you need for a fridge. Well, just just saw the peak 600 so maybe that will do it, but check with the maker before you buy, just in case.
  18. That's why you want it just cold enough. It gets just cold enough every winter, but is it precipitating when it's just cold enough? That's the key. Just cold enough during the event then frost bite cold right after. Too cold before and it's dry. Get it just cold enough during, then super cold after so it sticks around. Cold air is molasses and we've got mtns to our north...now if they can just be manipulated to raise and lower as needed, lol.... we'd get more snow.
  19. A 20,000 mah or higher battery pack for the phone. I've got 4 lifepo4 200 watt solar batteries that can run my computer and tv monitor, and peripheries for 3 days continuously. So used sparingly I can probably get nearly a week out of them, and strung together I believe they could run my fridge if I need them to. But at around 150 to 200 bucks a piece, you could get a Big lots generator for that. Only need to power the fridge on a few times a day. Get a water bladder, or fill the tub, and buy lots of gallons to drink. Problem with the tub, if you are all electric, the water might freeze with no heat and bust the tub. A camp stove to cook on with extra propane bottles. Good battery lamps and extra batteries. Best to get a usb charging lamp and extra battery packs. There again at least 20000mah. Or a couple of portable power stations are probably the same price. The more powerful the better. Walmart has power stations, and probably bat packs too. Dedicate one power station to the fridge and use the other for the phone, lamps, etc. There maybe usb ceramic heaters too. Should look into that. Walmart has 300 watt power stations for 160. Not sure that would do the fridge, as it has a surge to start. 500 is better, 750 might do all your needs but can't say for how long. And now you are in generator range. It's best to think of it as an adventure back in the way back machine to the days of yesteryear...as long as you don't have trees around that can make the house. If you have those, it's then like Damocles' sword, and terrifying.
  20. Glad you have that going for you. It probably won't be so suppressed, or the temps so perfectly set for zr through out. As depicted that's a lot of zr, and it takes some pretty perfect confluences to pull that off start to finish. I've only seen two that were massive and zr the whole time. The rest went back and forth between p types. 73 and one here in the 80's. No power for 10 days both times, all the rest just out a few days, or less. So it's really hard to do it like the maps are showing. Temps are rarely that rock steady at the right places in the column for a whole storm.
  21. Climo does not agree with that much zr there, does it? I surely hope not.
  22. Man, put up with near a half inch of zr to get over two of sleet, and be really close to over 3....so very temping. I think I'd take that deal.
  23. Well, at least it's back under an inch. Seems like zr is similar to earthquakes in that for every half inch the destruction is 4 to 6 fold.
