Oddly, as damp as it has been, I’ve seen almost no mosquitoes this year.
It's been a weird year. I had absolutely no black flies this year, not one. Hadn't seen a single yellow jacket until today. Still haven't seen a hornet which are usually around the eaves of my garage. Probably not a good sign for the ecosystem.
Unfortunately I have had hungry mosquitoes the past few evenings.

NWS from last night. Generally, I think they do a top-notch job. This wasn't one of their best. Pretty sure today fits the definition of all day wash out.
"
The upper level trough advances slightly to the east, along with an associated surface low...The best chance for showers looks to be across central and western Massachusetts due to the extra forcing from the upper level trough. Severe weather will likely not be an issue tomorrow with instability being rather meager...off and on showers, its not looking like an all-day washout"

HRRR is just rain all day. One convective burst after another. Just love to see it.
Yeah it's a beauty.

Managed upper 70s, then copious debris clouds from the Ontario and Quebec storms blowing up moved in along with the ever present smoke. Close the shades until Wednesday. May forego plans and go back to AZ early if this pattern keeps up.

Man, the gfs is an absolute dumpster fire for my trip next weekend and beyond. Hope that’s wrong
For all the times you've whined your way into favorable outcomes your due to be porked.

Well, compared to the last week of ass, it was a pretty nice day.
Not a bunch of smoke up there?

Pretty nice day if you like forest fires.

Very flat peak here. Warmest daily mean is late July but from July 10 thru August 10 the average is within 1° of that peak.
Do you have any experience with oak leaf tier? I have thousands of moths flying around and am wondering if they'll be a big outbreak next year . Thanks in advance...

Trying to plan a camping trip and the windows of opportunity for halfway decent weather don't look promising over the next couple weeks. Think we'll shoot for end of July-beginning of August when hopefully things have changed a bit. Long range GFS painting blue pixels over N Quebec already...summer's almost over.
You joke but I've noticed living in New England for a long time that the apex of the growing season is always right about now. From here we head downhill.

First fireflies of the year. At least that I've noticed. I'd take another couple months of evenings like this.

Bet the bears and other wildlife populations love it.
Screen door companies are licking their chops. Fireworks are not a favorite of most dogs.

Honestly we are sort of at the point where Stein is just any below precip at all. It started as like legit drought and now if you are like a 20-minute thunderstorm below average in a month you are Stein/drought.
Anything fun going on around Stowe this weekend? Daughter is heading up for the weekend and the 4th.

I've camped at the Lost River Campground. Very pretty area. There is also the Polar Caves in Rumney that are sort of fun and not too far from Lincoln.
Plenty of great swimming holes around rumney too.

Yup…right up close to exit 19. I’ve seen a couple here and there in the yard, but no oak defoliation yet.
Let me know if you spot any leaf tiers. DIT and Ginx may notice them as well since they were hard hit. They're coming to finish the job.

You would love the gypsies in parts of Concord. Armies of them just marching across parking lots taking down every oak leaf in their path.
Keep an eye out for a new oak pest. Just discovered it this week. Oak leaf tier. Sometimes spelled as leaftier. If you notice a bunch of very small moths near where the oaks had been decimated by the gypsies it's likely them. They can actually be worse than gypsies.
