One cell is over me now, but the one over Reading looks like it means business for points further north. I remember a lot of this stuff when I lived in Jersey City and NYC - overnight storms - less so here.

I know people who sleep through thunderstorms. I cannot. Gonna be a late night.

It's like how I think Manaus Brazil must be like.

No matter what, I'm happy to see the LI and NJ aquifers staying well charged. Something we don't always consider when we fill our little pools.

Trenton area getting hammered with heavy rain/storms. Flood Warning in effect for that area.
Sliding by right to my South. Lots of rumbles. No rain here so far.
Off topic the blackbirds have been going crazy today. Maybe they've run out of tasty cicadas?

I think we got overly used to having more stable power here than in Thorndale, where it seemed you could look at a transformer crossly and it would blow, taking out power to the whole town for hours. Since we moved to Reading 9 months ago, we've had nary a flicker; except it went out for a few minutes this past Monday, and now tonight. So hmm... Perhaps it's not as stable here as I once thought. Bummer.
Every time I reenter my date and time on the old phone, it guarantees an outage. So maybe I'll leave it alone.
DPs in high 70's - good for the trees, I guess. Gasp.

it is almost mid july the days of summer are winding down..
Ha Ha - IMO the days of summer start winding down after about August 15, when the water is at its warmest, the trees are full of yakking katydids, the nights are (maybe) a bit cooler, and certainly deeper, and the fields are buzzing with crickets. That's just the beginning of the best part of Summer, provided it hasn't been too dry. Also, the hemp is maybe starting to show flowers, if that is of any interest, but that's only for the botanists among us.

I don't mind the high DP, but the heat gets to everybody. Dry heat is rough on nature in general, so I'll take the DP, but I'm old and don't have to sweat for a living. Enjoy the more moderate temps while they last.

We've had a few cicadas for the last week or so, nothing over the top. Lightning bugs seemed to have peaked, plus that wind late Thursday probably did a number on them.
We've got the tree frogs here too, and the other night my wife found a "mini-frog" on the storm door - it was about 5/8" long. No, it wasn't a cricket, although at first glance it looked like one, size-wise. First time for that!
I had one sounding off in my living room. Thought it was a trapped bird. Finally let it out onto my deck during the storm Thursday night. Figured it would be happy in the moisture. Hope he jumped off the deck before the crows got him in the AM.

Summer cicadas been buzzing here for the last couple of days. Just a couple. Tree frogs have been singing all spring/summer.
Does anyone know if the frogs eat cicadas? They must have been happy this year with Brood X.

severe thunder storm watch inbound
Radar shows a line forming already near Stroudsburg PA.
Edit) not amounting to anything an hour later, unlike yesterday. Later perhaps?

And there's another batch forming to the west
Got over an inch from the last of that batch. More today, perhaps?
Looking forward to Friday's possible rain. I'm not a Grinch, but I love coastals in July, tropical or otherwise.

I swear ne nj is like a severe t storm/heavy rain hot spot. You guys over there have probably gotten more lightning today than i've had in the past few years
I grew up in Jersey City, near Bayonne, and I can vouch for that. A lot of CG, and a lot of hail.
Tonight we are all getting shellacked, however.

Been watching another blob which is gonna hit the Princeton W Windsor area soon. We aren't done this evening.

Wind gusts, but little else. Interesting to watch the line fragmenting on radar.
At least it will cool things down a bit.

Very heavy downpour here that delivered a quick 0.35". A pleasant surprise that I won't have to water the garden this weekend. With only isolated downpours today, I figured I'd have the usual bad luck and get nothing.
We got that brief downpour here in the W Windsor/Princeton area. About .35 as well.

Yesterday was bearable, because DPs were still in the low-mid 60s.
Today is the first time I felt the Blast Furnace effect.
Almost forgot what that is like. Dew points over 70 make all the difference.

A racket here with the cicadas. Also there are lightning bugs at night. Insects rule here, but at least they are not termites!

The storms weren't bad around my way. Just a few bangs, and very little rain. Lots of smaller cells around me, though. I hope that the aquifers are well charged. The mosquitos are grateful.
