May 2024 Discussion - Welcome to Severe Season!!!!
Snowedin replied to weatherwiz's topic in New England
Caught a couple turkeys on the prowl in the yard earlier. Probably trying to get a few last munchies in before the downpours start. Amazing how the animals can sense when nasty weather is on the way. Even our little dog has been on edge since this morning! -

Way too much dryness out there right now. We need to get those dews ramped up very soon! My flaky skin demands it. -

It appears our 3-6” rain events are better modeled and are of a much higher likelihood now than 3-6” of frozen granules in the middle of the winter. I eagerly await tips insightful explanation as to how that could possibly be in our neck of the woods in the cc era. To me, it’s just baffling how these crazy rain totals are thrown around like snowfall predictions and it seems as if very few people take notice anymore. -

It twas a solid 75 here and just plain beautiful. I don’t care what time of the year it is..I’ll take weather like this any day and run with it! Shame about the rest of the week but hopefully we can balance things out again at some point. -

Pouring cats and dogs here. Pretty sure I just heard a quick rumble too! -
My desktop pc has literally been stuck at “humid” since last summer, in spite of the prevailing temps. I think all the moisture and dewiness that season caused it to blow an internal fuse or something and now it’s just stuck on that description. It’s pretty damn laughable tbh.

My man I’ve been here most of my life. I’ve never seen so many mosquitoes of this size floating around and breeding this early in the season. I literally live just a couple miles from a swamp so I’m no stranger to bugs and birds of all types but this is just on another level of freakiness. I honestly wouldn’t mind one more quick freeze to kill off some of the early spawns. This season is going to be brutal around here and the mugginess hasn’t even started yet.
-
The May flies were brutal out there today. I couldn’t walk anywhere without getting swarmed by the little pests. I’ve also seen some giant prehistoric looking mosquitoes popping up all along the yard. All this rain we’ve picked up the last 6+ months is clearly starting to yield some interesting results in our swampy neck of the woods.
-
I agree except we need a little more swampiness in the air to truly get that quintessential New England summer feel.
-
I for one have grown fond of this perpetual monsoon season and enjoy the occasional trek through the swamps that have become my backyard in recent months. I could not imagine a day without sinking several inches into the lawn as I casually walk my canine companion throughout the land while she meticulously searches for a place to do her naughty business. /s

I’ve actually seen more bluebirds in our yard (specifically at a suet feeder) this winter than the entire I’ve lived in this area. I do wonder if the warming climate has anything to do with the sudden increase in sightings or perhaps I’m just more vigilant of the different birds that happen to be in our neck of the woods. It really is an incredible sight.

Anyone have a spare rowboat?
-
About the the same here. The monsoon season just doesn’t want to be end for us water weary folks in New England. Can’t wait for more stink bugs and giant spiders to come crawling their way through the cracks in the weeks ahead!

It was a Flop... February 2024 Disco. Thread
Snowedin replied to Prismshine Productions's topic in New England
You must have me confused with someone else. The snow is nice but straight up cold, cloudy and dry weather to me is something akin to a bad horror movie that just won’t end. When I was a wee lad I admittedly was a little more enthusiastic about the season. Nowadays, I long for greener (and warmer) pastures. Funny how that changes with time for some. -

Wake me up in march..man this weather is just depressing right now. Anyone got any spare tickets to Aruba? -
Yeah this is the best kind of snow to receive imo. Light, fluffy, picturesque and not even enough to have to worry about shoveling. It’s too bad we can’t this like as you said, without it being bone numbing cold as well. I guess you can’t have it all in the middle of January!
-
That’s incredible! There’s probably gonna be a lot of sore backs and knees in that area for the next several days. Hopefully you guys can catch a break very soon.

Stay safe out there!

1/13/24 Sultan Slicer #2 - Heavy rain, snow, wind?
Snowedin replied to Torch Tiger's topic in New England
Hey what’s that sound? Oh it’s just another tree crashing down in a wind swept downpour in the middle of January. Gotta love the wild and lush tropical oasis that is Eastern mass! -

That's nuts. I almost wish I had the mindset to take a quick recording so in the late summer when everyone is wishing for a tropical storm to run up the gauntlet and cause all sorts of havoc, at least I'll have direct proof that it was already experienced to a certain extent in just about the dead of winter hah. And hey, at the least the power is still on too (knock on wood) as I was almost sure we would lose it earlier with the winds raging. -

Took the words right out of my mouth. This is mid-summer like tropical stuff blowing through right now. It's just incredible that we're seeing this happen in mid-January of all times but I guess you could just say it fits the general trend for the last 6+ months in southern new england. I gotta find myself a spare rowboat at this rate! -

It’s very windy here and the rain is of course coming down in sheets. Already heard a couple trees come down in the woods in the last hour. Can’t wait until this damn wind dies down so I can finally sleep lol. -
Sunday, December 17 - Monday, December 18, 2023 Storm
Snowedin replied to weatherwiz's topic in New England
Power came back here a few hours ago. Such a huge relief after fearing it would take several days or more, especially with the cold setting in. Hats off to all the crews coming in from out of state working double time to get things back to normal. Couldn’t have asked for a better Christmas gift.
