  1. Well here we go with our usual early season cold making its presence known. Unsurprisingly, this happens as all the fun commences with leaf blowing and leaf sucking from all sorts of strange mechanical devices as well. On that dour note I personally look forward to our annual Christmas torch/swamp fest to most likely end the year on a somewhat more pleasant note. Of course, this happens around the time when snowfall desirability is usually at its highest for many. You gotta love New England..

  2. It’s probably colder now than it’ll be in mid February when an inevitable coastal storm rides up the gauntlet and gives us several inches of dewey rains. But hey, it def gives us that classic fall feel while we’re out watering the bushes and dodging giant acorns dropped by rummaging rodents.

Winter preview? I honest to God don’t think it’s going to be any good (again) down here. We await coastal season and first frost.

Agree. Memorable to me even though temps were nothing to write home about. Exceptionally wet with multiple legit flash flood events here, and plenty stormy even if nothing was particularly high end other than the supercell that started over my house lol. Tropical close call also stands out, even though it’ll likely be forgettable here.

Oddly enough, the hottest it felt here was during that mini heat surge in mid April and late last week. If it wasn’t for all the rain in the middle of the summer, the conversation would probably be radically different. It still was a very memorable season in terms of how tropical it felt, especially combined with all the moisture and the intensity of the lightning in some of those storms. Our poor little dog is definitely in need of a rest after many hours of hiding in every obscure nook and cranny she can wedge herself into!

  4. Tip as usual, has hit the nail on the head. This level of heat intensity is really impressive for this time of year. Going outside, even just for a little bit is enough to sap the life out of you. Even some of the birds around our yard are moving rather lethargically in these conditions, which gives me a little more motivation to keep the birdbath topped off. Of course it doesn’t help that there is hardly a cloud in the sky which truly allows this inferno that has overtaken us to reach its full potential, something that rarely happens in this corner of paradise.

  5. Thankfully just some gusty winds here but man that rain was just blinding for a good 20 or so minutes. Would hate to be on the road as that line was rolling through, pretty scary stuff. The season of monsoon rains and dewiness continues unabated! Be safe out there everyone.

    It’s very persistent.

EPS here for 8/15.  A couple things stand out… that secondary axis of lower heights still nodding into New England as the parent trough reloads into the upper Lakes.

That node of lower heights rippling through could spoil heat and humidity… but if it ends up not there at all, that picture gets a lot warmer/humid during that time.  Still a way for this to get more humid and hot earlier, but persistence wants to lean towards anyway possible to lower heights in the region.

Kind of reminds me of mid April or around that time frame when every year like clockwork, a cutoff low either gets stuck just offshore or around the Great Lakes region bringing with it days of damp and cool weather while the rest of the country is getting baked and can hardly buy a drop if rain. I suppose this time around we can add another 15-20 degrees and of course, much more dankness to the surrounding air. I’ll let the unofficial board expert on this strange phenomenon, tip fill in the rest.

Went to the beach in York, water temp today 58 degrees.

Hello shrinkage my old friend..but yeah let’s try to keep those water temps in the 70-ish range for everyone’s sake, the family jewels included.

Today was a beauty for any activity outside except swimming; tons of opportunities for adventure without chaffing.

Yeah the seaweed was pretty brutal around low tide in chatham. I’m thinking the storms on Friday really turned up the water enough to spit some of that nastiness towards the shore. Either way, a perfect day for spending time outside, wherever you are.

  9. I’ve been seeing quite a few earwigs, spiders and bunches of black ants popping up lately. That’s pretty much the most obvious sign of just how steamy it’s been as of late. Plus the moisture from recent rains always seems to bring the critters out of the woodwork. No matter which metric you use to determine the extent of dewiness in the land of humans, the animal world leaves little doubt as to just how swampy the air has been!

  10. Hey I personally wouldn’t be complaining about a coastal rain/interior snow setup for the rest of the season if it means preserving what’s left of my back for the near future. I look forward to seeing our little slushy inch of slop wash away with the stronger mid march sun angle. Instead I shall relish in the glorious foggy, drizzly, and damp days of the late winter and most likely early spring weather to come! It is almost inevitable for us coastal folks this time of year.

  11. 36f and light showers after a solid drenching overnight..the winter of yore continues! The winds are def starting to howl. Will def be interesting to see how the coastal flooding situation develops as the low intensifies. It’s gonna be a long, noisy eve!

  12. You all have fun with your pasty snow to the north and west. I’d be fine with not having to pull out the ol back shoveling inches of cement this late in the season. Of course us coastal folks still have to worry about trees and power lines possibly coming down with all this wind on top of very saturated ground. This rain has just been relentless for the last six or so hours. Talk about a persistent fetch of moisture coming up the south coast!

  13. Wouldn’t mind a nice 70 degree t-giving day tbh..throwing a frozen football around in several layers just doesn’t do it for me like running around in shorts and a cut off tee during a mid July cookout. This ol weenie just can’t tolerate the cold like it used to!

  14. Yeah pardon my sensible weather bias right now but let’s try and keep some of that nasty, frozen slop away for at least another couple weeks or so. There’s still another round or two of dreaded leaf cleanup to take care of around these parts. Thankfully the biggest bunches are out of the way but those last dozen or so loads can be a real pain in the ol rump with frozen shizzle added into the equation.

Gotta be kidding....I just smashed a mosquito in my house. :axe:

Yeah I did the same thing yesterday to a couple of those little buggers, couldn’t believe it! I wonder if there’s some sort of record on this board for the latest anyone has encountered a dreaded mosquito either inside or out. We must be getting close to record territory by now.

  16. Man it’s soupy out there..if you were to add a little more sun and another hour of daylight you’d have me thinking it’s late summer or perhaps mid spring. Days and days of sultry dews lie ahead as extended summer continues!
