Agreed.  Don’t care if the grass is torched brown all summer. Or if gardens need daily watering.

Just give us months of dry weather.  Anyone who complains about dryness this warm season is a psychopath .  Make it stop.

I for one have grown fond of this perpetual monsoon season and enjoy the occasional trek through the swamps that have become my backyard in recent months. I could not imagine a day without sinking several inches into the lawn as I casually walk my canine companion throughout the land while she meticulously searches for a place to do her naughty business.

Had my first ever bluebird sighting today. :)

I’ve actually seen more bluebirds in our yard (specifically at a suet feeder) this winter than the entire I’ve lived in this area. I do wonder if the warming climate has anything to do with the sudden increase in sightings or perhaps I’m just more vigilant of the different birds that happen to be in our neck of the woods. It really is an incredible sight.

.50" here.   Days and days incoming.     :axe:

About the the same here. The monsoon season just doesn’t want to be end for us water weary folks in New England. Can’t wait for more stink bugs and giant spiders to come crawling their way through the cracks in the weeks ahead!

winter. crave it like crack all year but when it's bad, bail?

You must have me confused with someone else. The snow is nice but straight up cold, cloudy and dry weather to me is something akin to a bad horror movie that just won’t end. When I was a wee lad I admittedly was a little more enthusiastic about the season. Nowadays, I long for greener (and warmer) pastures. Funny how that changes with time for some.

Next Week: Fairly quiet period of weather into mid week as mid-level
ridging build into the northeast along with a surface high pressure
system. No notable weather features across the northeast, while the
southern jet keeps things active across the southeastern USA, as my
cohort said, fairly typical for an EL NINO winter. Temperatures next
week are seasonably cool in the mid to upper 30s, lows in the teens
    and 20s.

No mention of sunshine in any portions of the BOX disc..  wow

Wake me up in march..man this weather is just depressing right now. Anyone got any spare tickets to Aruba?

The new snow today added just enough to better the footing on icy paths ironically.  My wife and I enjoyed a long walk in cold and snowy conds earlier.  My tolerance is such that I would love it to be at least 10 degrees warmer.

Yeah this is the best kind of snow to receive imo. Light, fluffy, picturesque and not even enough to have to worry about shoveling. It’s too bad we can’t this like as you said, without it being bone numbing cold as well. I guess you can’t have it all in the middle of January!

We got slammed here in Buffalo 70-85” this week in hardest hit areas, 76” here

That’s incredible! There’s probably gonna be a lot of sore backs and knees in that area for the next several days. Hopefully you guys can catch a break very soon.

That core went over me with 60dbz rains. In January. wtf. I don’t even think my gauge caught it correctly with the  wind from a hemlock upwind of it, but literally 0 vis. Might even be close to heaviest ever.

That's nuts. I almost wish I had the mindset to take a quick recording so in the late summer when everyone is wishing for a tropical storm to run up the gauntlet and cause all sorts of havoc, at least I'll have direct proof that it was already experienced to a certain extent in just about the dead of winter hah. And hey, at the least the power is still on too (knock on wood) as I was almost sure we would lose it earlier with the winds raging.

Holy shit this rain. Windy and 8”/hr rain rate. This is nuts.

Took the words right out of my mouth. This is mid-summer like tropical stuff blowing through right now. It's just incredible that we're seeing this happen in mid-January of all times but I guess you could just say it fits the general trend for the last 6+ months in southern new england. I gotta find myself a spare rowboat at this rate!

  10. Looks like the power will probably be out here until about Wednesday. Just taking a quick stroll down our street there are limbs down everywhere and a line that took a few hits as well. Not a good situation but at least we have a gennie here to run at the most critical times and it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the oct 2021 blowdown that leveled practically every third tree. Plus it’s fairly mild for this time of year too. Thank the lord for that!

Next 2 ...3 hours may see some sporadic gusts over 55 mph ... anywhere N/E of this line

Yeah that squall line will probably pack a punch. It kind of reminds me of a few of those severe events that took place late last summer that caught so many off guard. Amazing just how consistent this pattern has been even as we transition into winter.

  12. It’s pretty bad here in the well. Have heard a few crashes and booms not far from here and I haven’t seen the wind blowing this consistently since probably last winter. Hopefully this eases up at some point as the nerves are a little tense every time those gusts crank up. I can only imagine how much more wild it’d be if this were a snow event all around. My thoughts go out to Ginxy and all the other hardy coastal folks out there!

It truly doesn’t get more ugly than the 00z gfs. Flooding rains for most of New England followed by days and days of drizzle and light rain leading up to Christmas.

    shut em down

I say let’s go balls to the wall when it comes to moisture. I mean hey, most of our summer was practically stymied by days of rain, fog and clammy hands. You might as well try and push those records to the max considering the type of weather we’ve had since June. Go big or go home baby!

  14. Glad we’re not dealing with frozen stuff yet. After days of sucking up dead leaves this ol back and set of knees is in need of a good break. I’ll take a nice cold drink for the time being while we make our final prep for the big feast. But hey congrats to those that enjoy an early season slopfest, wherever you may be!

  15. Well here we go with our usual early season cold making its presence known. Unsurprisingly, this happens as all the fun commences with leaf blowing and leaf sucking from all sorts of strange mechanical devices as well. On that dour note I personally look forward to our annual Christmas torch/swamp fest to most likely end the year on a somewhat more pleasant note. Of course, this happens around the time when snowfall desirability is usually at its highest for many. You gotta love New England..

  16. It’s probably colder now than it’ll be in mid February when an inevitable coastal storm rides up the gauntlet and gives us several inches of dewey rains. But hey, it def gives us that classic fall feel while we’re out watering the bushes and dodging giant acorns dropped by rummaging rodents.
