Only MMI 4 has been observed, which is light shaking.

Pre-shock? Pretty sure the big Japanese quake a year ago had a pre-shock...

One line of thinking is that because there is so little movement that perhaps the fault is shutting down: http://www.physorg.c...s156169464.html

Another possibility is that the plates are locked and pressure is building up.

I hope the first group is correct.

"Based on artifacts found buried by sand blow deposits and from carbon-14 studies, previous large earthquakes like those of 1811–1812 appear to have happened around AD 1450 and around AD 900, as well as approximately AD 300."

So basically, this fault zone has a major earthquake series every 400-600 years. We're about halfway through to seeing the next big one there.

Felt it here - woke me up - could hear some popping noises and shook the bed. Enough to wake me up and wonder if it was a quake - went back to bed - saw the info this morning.
