Poor and quite premature call. 6 weeks of temps in the 50's last year then 4+ feet of snow in March or have you forgotten.
I'll take the way under on that.

I think it would take an incredible amount of bad luck to make it through feb without at least one advisory level event for the coast. I would put the chances of that happening at less then 10%.
This winter has really really gotten me down. First I break my collar bone on solid ice (created by the awul pattern). And then I’m being crushed financially with a lack of snow removal money. So if anyone really has a reason to be down on this winter it’s me.
Do you own a business for snow? I work for a big company that does luckily I have other work.

We're most of all missing our coach, who has turned around a talentless Islanders squad this year.

Majority of forecasters had a good pattern starting 2nd half of January.
We're 7 day's in already with another 1-2 (not snow) coming so this month will be almost over before anything goog happens.

Special Marine Warning for... Moriches Inlet to Montauk Point NY out 40 NM... Peconic and Gardiners Bays... * Until 130 PM EST. * Very cold air moving out over the waters around eastern Long Island has already produced isolated waterspouts late this morning. More waterspouts may be possible into early this afternoon.

Jesus, you’re good. I hope there’s a way for someone with your skills to get paid by energy traders or whatnot in a consulting capacity.

I think the only way to salvage this winter is a '78 remake

My sweet summer child... were you around in the 1980s and early 1990s?I was just cold but I would pay good money to have '94 again.

Tip in NE agrees....
The end of this 00z Euro run ...oh god - that compression is killin' me..
What a missed scenario - just relax that insane gradient between the south of JB and the Gulf and you get some kind of exotic history to be made there..

Anybody starting to think FOK is off with the temps?
Very well aware of the geographic situation out there having a house nearby...but it seems to have become one of the coldest spots in the entire region on nights where radiational cooling plays a large factor. And despite significant development around that parcel of pine barrens over the last 20 years...the cold nights seem to have intensified.
Thoughts?
For those not familiar, FOK sits in the middle of Pine Barrens on sandy soil with the Atlantic just south, the Peconic Bay just NE. While the area may seem isolated, Long Island is relatively small width wise. Major towns such as Riverhead and Hampton Bays are in (relatively) close proximity
The airport itself is a former Air Force (now national guard) base that is very underused.
Permafrost?

2 inches here. Very disappointing storm that was characteristic of a dud winter. Sleet fests don't count IMO. Followed by an equally disappointing March sleet fest.

I saw today where Vail Resorts stock was down $27, or 13% from yesterday. They reported much lower pre-holiday resort visits. I hadn't heard of any poor conditions there nor a lack of snow. I wonder how NNE ski areas are holding up?
I remember when it was in the $20's was wondering who the hell would by a seasonal stock...oh well.
