Would you stop with the everything is going as planned business. Just a week ago nobody was calling for a spike in temperatures to start February. Go back the middle of December and people were saying shortly after the New Year and the MJO was heading to the right phases. What happened? It did not work out. Forward to just a few weeks ago, February is looking better. Then boom, spike in temperatures shows up. While I hope February 10th we really see some snow, but no nothing went as 'planned' this winter. Most people's long range forecasts busted in December and have further busted in January. The only thing I might get right on my own LR forecast is +1.5 to +2.5F on DJF temperatures. My snowfall of 100-120% average is likely going to bust and bust hard.

If he means going as planned meaning bust than I can't argue.

As long as you are not actually driving on the Taconic when the squall hits.  Been there done that and still remember it after 25 years.  Slow down until the point where you are about stopped and pray whoever is hidden in the curtain of snow behind you does the same thing.  Literally went from clear everything to snow covered roads and zero viz in less than 30 seconds.  That time was at night.

The snow squall warnings are most important for people traveling on major highways, such as interstates, but on rural roads as well.    I'd avoid speeding west on I-80 through that squall. If you are rolling from light to light in town the reduced visibility should be mostly a curiosity.  Quickly icing roads might be problematic though, especially where there are more hills or more knuckleheads or both.

Good point...Like this but not as bad

I would say the exact opposite, that’s the exact place to be in winter. There are plenty of people who enjoy winter sports as much or more then summer. I absolutely love snow boarding, I would put a great day on the mountain with fresh snow right up there with a day of surfing. Maine has absolutely been the place to be this winter with two of the biggest and best ski resorts in the east (sugarloaf and Sunday river) having banner winters. Had I been there ridding fresh snow I wouldn’t have broken my collar bone on the ice in southern Vermont. It’s just too far of a drive for a weekend warrior like myself. Throw in all the other winter sports people love their (snowmobiling, ice fishing, hokey and many more) and you end up with endless winter opportunities

Been to both SR and SL numerous times. Both are great mts but I like SL a little bit more over sunday. Rangeley is the town to go for snowmobiling and is where saddleback is but is still closed, great state.
