So chew on this; in a weeks time, some have gone from a surprise snow, to record warmth a couple of days later, to severe weather and flooding a couple days after that, and could possibly see a few flakes in couple more days! Huh?
-
Almost had water in my basement a couple hours ago. Never had my creek jump its bank before but it backed up and flooded the whole yard. Only a foot or so from coming in. CRAZY stuff! Thankfully it's been very light rain since. Over 5.7 so far.
-
Just had rates of almost 4 inches per hour, picked up a half inch in just 7 or 8 minutes. Up to 4.7 now and my creek is overflowing into my yard.

Mark my words: six months from now—when the drought monitor map is painted orange—we won’t be able to buy a drop of rain.
After the last 26 months I'm hoping for a drought!

About to hit the 4" mark since midnight here...ridiculous!
Yeah, theres going to be some major problems going forward. I'm at 3.6 and adding up FAST. The ponds in my neighborhood are overflowing already. This is not a good situation for our area. Still a lot more to come.

Wow, right on the 0 line for me. The 925 always seems to be a bigger issue than the 850. What elevation is 925 is 925?
Wouldn't take much to get 85 and North into the game for the upstate. Need this to keep ticking just bit colder.

Good to see there's some chilly air somewhere, though certainly not cold for early Feb. I think this pic gives an excellent snapshot of the general pattern over the past several winters. Trough over the Mid West/N Rockies with an SER and mild East in general. Either this is just a multi-year pattern that won't go away or it's becoming the new climo. I hope it's a multi-year pattern that will change soon, but I fear the worst...

I post this without comment.
Yep, that's Colorado alright. They know how to do cold fronts the right way. Kinda miss that sometimes.

First week of Feb about to tell first week of Jan, "I'll see your crazy record warmth and raise ya."

Last 4 mornings have been 27, 28, 29, and 30. I sense a trend.
Yep. Low was 31 this morning
Too bad the snow didn't come through at that temp. Probably had a couple of inches worth fall.

Officially .6 at AVL, .1 at GSP, T at CLT.
You almost forget how pretty a dusting can be. Also shows just how snow starved most of us are to be so excited over so little.

I thought the upstate nuclear warm bubble was a permanent fixture!?? Cool graphic!
Well I'm just outside of that. All rain for me now. Was pretty to see though. Now I want another system with accumulation!

I just moved here a couple weeks ago. I’m close enough for a day trip to the beach or the higher mountains or to see the grandkids I have a whole new bucket list of photography to check off
Oh wow, had no idea. Welcome to the upstate! Now you'll have had a taste of all 3 regions of SC.

Greenville Co, where I teach, is “monitoring forecasts and roads.” No early dismissal yet. I hope this won’t bite us in the butt, even if road temps are above freezing. I heard Oconee is dismissing early.
.Pickens dismissing at 11:15. Not sure why, roads just wet, still above freezing.

Glad to hear you're seeing some! What are you doing in Ft Inn?

I drove to the top of six mile mountain. 1600ft. About a half inch on the ground.
Nice. Man, as soon as it got cold enought to start sticking here the darn warm nose crept in and turned it to slop and rain! Ceaser's Head may do well.

This is such a tease. Why can’t we just score a big one? It’s ripping big flakes here mixed with slop.
Beautiful! Way too warm to stick though, at 37.

Snowing here!

Right now it looks like the first half of Feb will be very similar to the first half of Jan. 10-15 above for many areas.

Don't bite burrel, don't let it suck you in. Stand strong my man.
Actually would be nice to see, just not sure snow can fall twice for us (instead of lightning stricking twice!).
