Well I call this a small victory for this winter. Looks like we might have something possibly brewing the second half of March.

Heck, as you mention we will be starting second winter soon, tis the season.  We will see if Buckethead can lose his keys in the snow the first week of May this year.

One day you might listen to me

I understand you keeping it real, which can be depressing considering real snow probability these days.  I was thinking about Jason Boyer forecasting a couple of snow chances to be duds that turned out otherwise some years ago.  However, he would be right 90 plus percent of the time just going with that, lol.

Well it appears that the blocking we need for winter to get snow may arrive in March to get cold rain.  So let's hope for 3 years no snow and get into the record books.  I mean what the hell, might as well get something out of this misery.

Blocking beginning in March is about as sure as the Spring solstice.

We are literally 3 days away from a little event and the NWS has nothing.  We have the NAM, EURO, and gfs showing something.  Strange but maybe they are jaded like us this winter lol.

NWS this afternoon forecasted a 20% chance of snow showers for Banner Elk on Saturday.

Man what a terrible winter if you love snow.  We were all built up for above average snow due to El Nino and damn we've had only a trace which is worst than last year.  I mean what the hell.  If it isn't going to snow I want warm and dry.  I can't believe we haven't had one storm that produced a nice winter storm.  Frustrating!!!

A cold January produced nothing but a high heating bill, I didn't  like them apples.

I think that was the year had some friends get stuck at the Pisga inn, foot of snow memorial weekend…

That is the year folks got stuck at Pisgah Inn but it was early May; they had cleared the road to Pisgah Inn by the time we went up there to ski.

Below are a couple links to articles on the storm:

Amen. We haven’t had a warm spring in a while. The days get longer and it sucks to piss it away indoors.

Seems over the past decade or more, this neck of the woods has three seasons: fall, winter, late winter followed by summer.  There will be a spring fever week in February then the teleconnections setup for a western ridge and east coast trough; cold winds start blowing in March and persist into the first week in May with a smattering of brief warmups.  Mountain valleys will continue to see snow flurries in April and into May for the higher elevations.  It will be interesting to see if El Nino disrupts what has become a typical "Spring" pattern.

Remember when the pattern change was supposed to be February 10-12? Now its February 16-18. Sound familiar?

What we can count on every year, the teleconnections will get right for snow except it will be the beginning of Spring.

Oh don’t get me wrong. Definitely didn’t mean it like that. Luckily the mtns will continue to do well with flow and nighttime snowmaking.

I am sure folks struggling to pay to heat their homes would appreciate a warm up.  I think this January will be the highest heating bill I have ever had, luckily I am blessed to be able to make ends meet.  Since it is going to be cold anyway, hoping to see some snow tonight.

After this weekend, it's going to be a quiet few weeks on here... Glad that some of you scored some snow out of this pattern. But, yikes. I'm not looking forwards to 60s in January after getting blanked.

Not happy about getting blanked either but bring on the 60s.  Still have Feb, March, April...May to get snow.

So, I was bored. I drove 26 to find snow. I got to Buckner Gap 3370 ft and there was a mix. I got to Sam's Gap and there was the beginning of snow with some on the ground in TN. There was more in TN but it diminished quickly.

A few miles outside Erwin, the temp dropped to 30 and it was pouring snow. Snow on the ground and snow on the interstate. A few miles down the road in Erwin was a mix again though there was some on the ground.

I turned around there and got back to Sam's Gap and it was heavy snow on the TN side, but quickly diminished on the NC side.

Bottom line, the cold air in the upper atmosphere is somewhere near Erwin, TN. It was fun to see snow for a little bit.

Your definitely are more motivated than I am today.  Glad you enjoyed your snow chasing adventure.

It was 32 when I went to bed, figured we’d hold there or drop a few degrees but looking at weather station data it was 36 by midnight and hung around there ever since.  I’ll miss whatever falls since I’ll be in Charlotte, hopeful for seeing something other than the token flakes I’ve seen all season late week into the weekend. Keeps up and we’ll need a “Non-State line aka Everyone not @Buckethead or @nchighcountrywx Mountain thread” post.  Really break things down since our foothill brethren left us

Didn't realize until you mentioned this that there is now a Foothills thread.  Since I live in the French Broad Valley, should I start a Mountain Valley thread ;)

Do you guys ever think about how over the past 10 years, Alberta randomly stopped sending us their clippers?

jokes aside I haven’t seen one in ages.

Yes, do not see light snow/flurries in Asheville with near the frequency we did 10 plus years ago.
