58F here currently which is -9F below normal for a high temperature. The 10 day outlook here from Weatherunderground shows nearly every day to be below normal temperature wise.

Both the CMC and Euro with whopper -NAO and tappable cold sufficient for historic late season snow...
The only problem?
Duh duh duh day 10.
However, the teleconnectors from the GEFs have really been hitting a truly miserable, craptastic pattern for the first half of May. So... these long range computer day dreams of blue glory aside ... if you are a spring enthusiast, you may want to seek another hobby until further notice.
It's been a really solid signal - we'll see how the dailies go down.
Install cancel?

Should have been shut down weeks ago. No one is in ski/snow mode now

How is the ice cover loss determined? Is this via infrared satellite imaging?

The webcam at Barrow shows no sea ice, in fact I have not seen any in the last 3 months I have been checking the cam. Is this normal?

Does this have any bearing on how fast next summer's melt may happen with such a late start the re-freeze. I guess that ice thickness overall would be less with a shorter winter season?

What does that have to do with my comment?
I meant to quote the Bluewave post, sorry.

The arctic had almost no issues until the mid to late 1990's.
Is this why Alaska is having a warm up with the 0C isotherm moving well north into the Arctic this week?

Good question, because if you play his video at 0:30 it shows the Wales Sea Ice Webcam as down and he seems to imply someone is hiding the ice growth. That cam actually works just fine and shows open ocean, its just a different link:

The ice is growing rapidly, having surpassed 2008, 2007, and 2011.
That may be but he had a video stating that the Barrow sea ice cam was down to hide the fact of the record freeze up which is false. The cam is working and shows open ocean.

This YouTube guy is really ridiculous, I posted the webcam to show the true extent of the sea ice at Barrow:

as a snow lover i would never have disgust reporting snow, i may grow tiresome of endless cold but snow from late sept to mid/late may (almost 8 months sounds great)
I like snow too, I've skied in all 12 months of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, but Alaska is having a combination of snow and record cold in May and I am sure most of the population is tired of it, plus summer up there is short to begin with. Having temperature departures of -10 -20F in April and May would not make me happy.

I would include snow pics right now, but I am too disgusted. Accumulating on grass now, but there should be a legit shot for accumulations on the road after dark.
I don't blame you I can only imagine how terrible it would be to have a winter that has stretched on now for 9 months. I like snow, but I'd be sick of it to at this point in May. Hang in there, it looks better for you in the extended forecast.

Good thing the trough axis is to our West this week, days and days of 60's.
