Fantastic run. First time in 36 hours the GFS didn't throw our energy further west. Not really paying attention to the surface reflection, it'll change, but if this is the end of the trend then we've seen the bottom and we're on the mend.

I hope that this isn’t considered banter, and if it is I apologize, but I really do enjoy reading your analysis of every storm we have. You are extremely knowledgeable!  Based on your experience and just overall knowledge, has any storm ever gone south instead of doing the normal Northwest trend? I’m just trying to see if central NC still has a chance at all of getting anything other than a bunch of garbage.  I have been a long time lurker but I don’t think I have ever seen one storm not have the northwest trend in the end, but I’m hoping that I might have missed one along the way.

    RDU folks will like

I’m in North Raleigh so I do like this.  I also liked you showing some sympathy for those of us in central NC a couple pages ago.  Much appreciated!  You’re my new favorite poster.  Excuse the banter please!

2 meh winters in a row here in Raleigh area. At least we saw an inch this year and 4 last year.

Definitely meh.  We got about 1.5” last week and we still have a few small patches in our yard.  I’m sure that’s going to be it for the winter.  I love living in Raleigh but the lack of snow stinks.

  4. I’m insanely jealous that DC and the mid-Atlantic region are about to get an obscene amount of snow while we get jack squat.  It doesn’t bother me when the NE gets snow but it really bothers me when the mid-Atlantic region gets some.  I don’t know why though.  Yes, I’m petty and bitter.

Not official but took measures about 7pm and saw we got more.  Not bad considering melting!  Basically KRDU plus a bit here in the snow belt region just N of RDU and there is a difference as you already know.

It seems we get a bit more enhancement when storms start to amp a bit off the coast which throws more moisture back into colder air and slows the western edge (back edge) down for a bit and sometimes retrogrades for an hour or 2, not much sometimes, but definitely noticeable other times which makes a big difference (again part of the Wake county gradient equation).  The pivot is how we score more and part of the northern Wake advantage imho because we are cold enough to take advantage with perhaps a small degree of orographic lifting  enhancement in the far NW side of the county.

Just a to let y'all know  I KNEW there was a HUGE Wake County gradient and insisted that we live in the most NW part of Wake county possible and we are a good gap wedge from Durham county (better schools in Wake but I digress).  My wife was good and so am I.  At the end of the day if you're a snow lover, MAKE sure that you live where you get snow!  It's a must for us snow geese.  Otherwise, it will frustrate you to no end.  I had to go to a place that we had sledding every year and could enjoy it.  There is a HUGE difference folks and it is real, at least for now.

It sounds like we are pretty close!  We are just a few miles from the Durham County line in NW Wake County and according to my neighbor we got a little over 2.5”.  Of course we are out of the country so our kids had to watch the snow falling from our security cameras!

So we get two SE snowstorms this year and the Mid Atlantic is currently at zero correct?

No, I think the Mid Atlantic did have one in January IIRC.  I’m not going to call this a snowstorm quite yet.  There needs to be some measureable snow on the ground first.
