Merry Christmas folks! Dr. Neil Frank passed away this morning surrounded by his loving family praying and singing hymns lying in bed with his loving wife Velma of 73 years. Neil was 94.
Merry Christmas. Sad news. Thank you for sharing.

23.2 this morning. There are so warm days ahead, but there have been plenty of cold mornings. Winter will return.

It turned out to be a weak NWFS. Not even a dusting in west AVL or Black Mountain.
Is a skiff the scientific term below a dusting? I had a little on the cars, the roof, and the deck. Not enough to cover any of those, but it was there.

I can't tell if there is rain in it, but definitely some flakes falling. Unfortunately, I am at 36 degrees, so I am sure that it won't last.
Edit: Mostly rain now

Most of us have seen. Close to or above average though. Sure we are near the border but it counts as well. Honestly the Asheville airport is in a shitty place. That's literally Fletcher or Mills River in a dang valley. Might as well call that Hendersonville.
Good point about the airport location. I have thought that for years! Actually, an excellent point.I have had more than them, but we have definitely not seen as much as you border guys. I used to cash in better on NW flow events, but that has been way lower lately. We are definitely substantially below normal.
But, we have had some snow, which beats what a lot of people have had. I have complained some, but for the most part, I will just wait for the next one. Plus, I am a short drive away to see you border guy's snow any time it happens!

Yesterday's record snow for the date from 1971 when it used to snow more than a half inch. 16.3 inches. Of course, even a half inch is a struggle.
YESTERDAY 0.0 16.3 1971 0.0

23.5 this AM. But not to worry, I will be plenty warm enough for rain later on. But not too much rain, lol. Maybe, a tenth of an inch. Maybe.
Good luck to you higher elevation guys! I'm always hoping that at least someone in our area gets some snow.

Root for your foothill brethren who missed to the west, south, east, and north last year.
I'm probably no more than a couple inches above you guys. Even rain has underperformed here lately.
But I am for anybody on this board who can cash in. You have to figure anybody on here is probably a snow fan.

I think its time I took a break since I seem to be coming off the way I am.
I think you have been fine. You have as much right to your opinion as anybody else.

The asinine nature of your posts is what is trolling. But you know that. Anyway, I’ll patiently wait for the others with actual useful information to post now. Have fun being miserable.
In fairness to WNCSNOW, he is as excited as anybody when there is something to be excited about.
He doesn't necessarily like to look for the positive when it requires a little searching, but he is quite often right because of that.
I don't think he is trolling at all. He is just a realist. Realism can be painful around here though, lol.
He is a little negative, but he is a good dude and a good poster to have on this board.

Good afternoon Mountain Thread...new American Wx member here, just moved to NC mountains...or more correctly, the eastern edge between Chimney Rock and Asheville, very near the escarpment. Long time Am Wx lurker, going back to my days living in Northern VA, and reading the infamous Mid Alt sub forum. In fact, I still speak of a walk in the snow, ice, or just bone numbing cold, as a "Jebwalk"., as do some on this board...my two now adult children know this term, and like to check in on me when winter weather is present, and ask if a Jebwalk is on the agenda. In any event, having just moved from Souhtport, NC, I have enjoyed the "real" fall weather in Sep and Oct this year, and am now looking forward to "real" winter weather this winter. I am a bit too far east for NWFS, but occasionally I hope to see flizzards break containment...and otherwise looking fowward to potential winter storms that might bring accumulating snow to this elevation...
Welcome!

Definitely fun for you border guys !!!
From GSP, a little snippet:
Tight pressure gradient (4-6mb) with ongoing snow and dynamical features aloft will support sporadic blizzard conditions at the highest elevations (>4000`) along the immediate Tennessee border. Soundings from the CAMs are picking up on very shallow instability, which should only increase snowfall rates, especially in the favorable upslope areas in the Smokies, northern Madison County, and the Roan Mountain area. Perhaps an instance of thunder snow can`t be ruled out either, but good luck finding the exact location where this might occur-
