I'm grasping for straws, but the 12z HRRR ticked totals up in a bit in IL. Farther east, looks like it developed a bit faster, was a slight shift west, versus the 6z run. Might be just timing though.
I don't know why I'm still paying attention to this thing.

Everything is in hindsight of course. I agreed with the call when it happened due to the wind/cold and holiday.
But in hindsight, this is not the "olden days" where information takes long to get to the public. It's New Age, with smartphones where nformation is immediately sent to the public and in publics eyes. 1.5-2 days is plenty of lead time now
100% this.
Not only are warnings and public messages instantly sent its also message boards like this that are quickly spread and taken out of context. Still thinking a watch will be maintained only because of high winds/open areas and holiday travel.

The WSW for northern illinois is in jeopardy to be honest. Good Luck the rest of the season, my trip to to chgo appears to be with limited fanfare and thats ok...hurricane season is right around the corner, lol. The trend is definitely not Northern Illinois' friend.
They'll keep it in place simply for "holiday travel"
Yeah...that's the ticket!

Now at 6.2” & pixie dust falling lolI'm not sure what we've seen here in A.Heights but it's impressive vs what I expected. The headline is definitely a head scratcher-especially considering the timing of this mess on the morning commute. Not that it would have changed anything but I think extending the Winter Storm Warning area would have been a smart move for lot

Under call. 10 still very much doable imo
After 5 winters in the Southeast I'm going to be thrilled with anything... especially with the slow start to the season.

for Northeast IL folks. All caveats aside that it's NAM 84 out, and I'm a novice when it comes to model interpretation but liked the look of it as it seemed to bring the overunning back north into a good part of the metro as opposed to 12Z which kept it all south. Also, looked like 2nd wave was poised to do some damage as well.
Am hopeful for this to continue... would love to see it in Arlington

LOT giving us 2-4. After 5 winters in ATL I'll take it.

Wow, posters on here are like Clemson defensive backs this morning....no where to be found! Surprising given the potential. Headed to Asheville this weekend, may see some token winter precip. early Saturday.
As a UGA fan I have little room to speak of championship games....always watching to see how things pan out here in Cobb County. After spending 34 years along the lake in Chicago, winter is slightly different these days. Our oldest would love to make a few bucks shoveling/breaking up ice along the driveways and sidewalks of the neighborhood.

Kenosha Kickers are headed down to Cobb for Christmas this year. I'll ask them to bring some cold and all the proper ingredients...

It's incredible how bad of a handle local Mets have on winter weather around here. Time to look forward to spring.
Having lived in the Chicago area for 30+ years I can honestly say that you really don't want a Midwest winter. It's a never ending struggle. It's either cold and dry, cool but not cold enough or it's extremely cold and snowy. It's awful.
There's nothing fun about a late April snow and upper 40's with a breeze off Lake Michigan for Father's Day.

Had snowflakes for a few moments in Acworth, GA. Thankfully it stopped... didn't restock my bread and beer supply.

This is the type of pattern where a storm pops up and we only have 3-5 days to really track it. I prefer those because then I don't get hooked into it for 7-10 days.
Agreed. I can only remember once following with high confidence a storm beyond 5 days. That was the Groundhog Day blizzard while I was in SE Wisconsin. Tom Skilling mentioned it, I looked into it by stumbling across this site.
So began my dark decent into these weather boards....

Any reason why KFFC has been quiet lately?
